sure its a tough road for these celts to take and pretty imporbable, but if anyone can do it its this group of guys. win the next 2 at home and we've got a series on our hands here

I think there's varying levels of pessimism - logical concerns to complete overreactions, I think for the most part the criticisms are re: those of our community who are acting as if the world is coming to an end.

Well, I think people tend to perceive me as wildly negative, but my view is simply that the Heat are a better team right now, which is primarily a result of the Celtics being too old, tired, and banged up.

This group gave us a great 4 years, and they are talented enough to remain a 40-50 win team for another couple years.

That's not contending, though, and I'd rather see Danny blow it up and start rebuilding now to hopefully get some value out of our older players and young role players instead of starting from scratch.

How are your claims that the Celts are done contending any different than similar claims before the 2010 playoffs began?

They aren't, really, and it appears I wasn't wrong. They made a deeper run than anybody expected last year, but still came up short.

Earlier in this season, it looked like they might be having a bit of a renaissance with the addition of Shaq and JO and a more consistent bench, but after injuries and a trade that shook up the team's composition, it now appears that they are headed to a much earlier exit than last season.

The window was open for 3-4 years, but the East got really talented this year and the Celtics were decimated by injuries.  The only way the Celtics could continue to seriously contend is if Rondo became Chris Paul over the summer.

We shouldn't give up.  At the same time, the Heat are a lot better than the Canadiens were, and we don't have a great goalie on the Celtics.

No, however we had MUCH better military force than the Japanese did. Unfortunately the Heat are the better team at this point. If we were down 2-0 to the Sixers then I'd say you had a valid argument.

I have it on good authority that Troy Murphy is a cat when he's between the poles.

Of course you were wrong. They made the run last year that many of us predicted they would all season.

Many of us?  I don't recall many people saying the Celtics were going to make it to the Finals during the last few months of the season last year.

I was wrong in the sense that they went farther than I expected, but I had a lot of company in being wrong there.  I wasn't wrong in the sense that I didn't think they had enough to win it all, and they didn't.  You can say that if it weren't for Perk's injury, or biased officiating at the end of Game 7, the C's would have had enough.  But the fact is, it is only because of age and lack of overall talent / depth that the Celtics were so vulnerable to injury and did not have home court advantage in the Finals.

Thus, even those two "excuses" support the idea that the Celtics didn't have enough last season to win it all.

I hate this comparison, and I hope it's not true, but it looks like we've turned into the San Antonio Spurs.  It looks like we just don't have the gas to make that deep playoff run.

Yeah, it's difficult to ignore this comparison particularly in view of San Antonio's quick, injury-fueled demise in the past two post-seasons.

Excuses? Please. If you want to kid yourself and say that a team that lost by 4 points in game 7 of the finals without their starting center clearly didn't have enough to win it all, go ahead. And, yes, there were a fair amount of people that thought the Celts had a decent chance at a title going into the playoffs. The naysayers were basically too busy telling everyone that would listen that it was all over that they didn't notice any disagreement.

Does anybody really care about who was right and who was wrong?  I think that most of us would rather have a title than the knowledge that we were correct about stuff.

There are no gold stars for being the first one to predict the demise of the team, or for cheering for them the loudest.

Have to say it must be over. NO team in the history of the NBA has ever come back after losing the first two games on the road! I say don't even play the games. I certainly wouldn't want to see anyone get hurt in these meaningless games. I guess we're now all freed up Saturday night. No sense watching anymore.
Time for baseball and cookouts.

We are down 2-0...we have to win 4 out of 5 to advance..the Heat have to win just 2. The last time we made a comeback and won the series after being down 2-0 was in 1969...a team that leads 2-0 goes on to win the series 94.1% of the time. Very difficult odds to overcome...and our much hyped trade deadline "help" has given us nothing.

Yes, let's rather talk about who we will draft with the 25th pick in a weak draft instead of coming back from an 0-2 hole.
