Shaquille O'Neal doubtful Tuesday
http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nba/news/story?id=6471372

Quote
Celtics coach Doc Rivers said ailing center Shaquille O'Neal "looked terrific" going through an entire practice Monday, but soreness makes him doubtful for Tuesday's Game 2 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Miami Heat.

"He looked great [Monday], went through the whole practice," said Rivers. "He was phenomenal, actually. ... But by the end of practice, he was struggling walking, so we'll see. I would say Game 3 is becoming likely. Game 2, we're not sure yet, but I doubt it."

So it went from "out game 2" to "doubtful"?

To be fair, Blakely was the only one who reported he was "out" in a tweet (which he made it sound like he heard it from Shaq, and not the C's), while Doc said that he was not counting on him playing tonight.

I have zero faith in the Celtics medical staff. This sounds like the same story we heard in 08/09 with KG.

Didnt Grant Hill specifically resign with the Suns instead of us this last offseason because of the Suns medical staff http://bleacherreport.com/articles/15899-phoenix-suns-

In 08-09 Shaq played 75 games at 30mpg for the Suns.

This is nothing like KG's injury. Shaq almost played in game 1, and he will play in this series. And unlike KG, surgery isn't going to fix anything, and I don't think he has another season left in him. He will go all out when he plays in this series.

Wrong its exactly like 08/09 when the they kept changing KGs medical prognosis. Different player same story. What about the pre medical diagnosis of Jermaine Oneal before signing him to the MLE.
I suppose they knew he would sit out almost the whole regular season. ::)
No, it isn't the same.

Shaq is practicing during the playoffs. KG did not practice.

Shaq is not playing today because he is limping, but based on Doc's comments, we could soon see him in a game soon. Instead of playing Shaq in a practice on Friday, I expect to see him in the game on Saturday.

Why do you need to speak so absolutely when you have no access to Shaq and are unable to attend practice to watch him play?

If your problem is the team not knowing when Shaq will be ready to play, then you are due for a lot of frustration because that is the nature of the human body. Those who can't understand this will often be frustrated.

I'm confused. I think they need to role the dice and do what they can to get the win. Play him and let it play out. We're past the point of saving him. If he can't go today, I doubt 3 more days are going to do him any good. We took a gamble with the trade, no sense in not taking another gamble.

Tonight is our season and I don't want to see our guys go out this way, especially to those 3 crying clowns in Miami.

Comeback to boston with your shield or on it.

Did they not clear him to play in April? After being out how long?
and how long did he last on the court? 5 minutes.  Sure you are right it is the nature of the human body when you misdiagnose the original problem.

who said he was misdiagnosed? It's still the same problem, it just takes forever to heal because he's old. Nothing cures "old" No surgery will make a sore tendon and calf muscle heal any faster. As you age, you lose elasticity in your tendons and the muscles stiffen up and weaken, it's just the way it is.

Good to hear that Doc is still optimistic about Shaq being ready for Game 3.

Somebody has GOT to tell Doc that "Doc" is just a nickname. He's not a real doctor.

Are you serious? Shaq sits out what? 12 weeks supposdly getting treatment. The medical staff clears him to play in April and he lasts 5 minutes before reinjuring himself and you dont see the problem? Just for the moment forget the issue of the supposed misdiagnosis and explain to me how the staff can clear him to play and have him reinjure himself so quickly? Its more than just age it stinks of incomptence. I guess its just conincidence that Phoenix can keep Grant Hill healthy enough to play 80 games this year and 81 last year at age 38.

Yeah...but Grant Hill also does not weigh 350+ lbs....and Hill missed a lot of games earlier in his career....Shaq has logged in some serious nba minutes. Wear and tear adds up.

Hill: 948 career games. (32961 minutes)
Shaq: 1207 career games. (41918 minutes)

depends the result of tonight game.... wait till the most important game and play him till he can no longer run...we will benifit from whatever minutes he can provide ..... then hope he can play another game in the next series.... its impossible to for him to play in every game...let him play one game and take his time to rest till the next series...

All the credit for Hill goes to Hill himself for taking care of his body, and to all the games he missed during his career with he previous injuries which means he had much less milage on him than Shaq, and he puts much less force on his joints with less body weight. FYI, there is no real way to treat Shaq's injury other than rest, it's not the fault of the medical staff, it's the way it is.

Being Grant Hill's size at 38 and Shaq's size at 39 is two very, very different things, I'm not even sure why that's worth describing. Why are we talking about Phoenix again?

Shaq being re-injured doesn't necessarily prove incompetence, either. Unfortunate, no doubt, but this doesn't prove the medical team failed.
