  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Well we beat the Knicks- we all knew we would.
Now the real season starts and it's the time we've been long anticipating and dreading at the same time- where all our questions, worries and faith come down to 7 games of basketball. We don't have home court. We are older. We are missing our beloved Perk. We have no idea if we'll see Shaq when we need him most.
To get me amped I love watching this KG interview before he joined the C's....
this one always gets me more fired up than anything.
The passion of this man and his hatred of losing is something that we always think about with KG but I think a lot fans take it for granted. If you've seen it, watch it again. If not, appreciate how rare someone like this is in sports today and how lucky we are as fans to have this guy leading our team.
I feel sorry for Chris Bosh having to play against this guy in the most important series of his life- he's gonna get completely punked by KG.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

KG is made of rare stuff. He's cut from a different mold. That mold is gone, and I doubt we'll see anyone like him again.

I'm sure there are no NBA players that like losing, but KG takes it to a whole new level.

True.

In today's age, we are getting further from KG and it seems like the more talent you have, the bigger market you want to play in and with equally great teammates around you. These players are dictating where they play, who they play for, and who is around them WHILE under contract.

KG gave everything he had to Minneapolis.

Sure did - and then some. He in fact gave his best years. KG was IMO just on the other side of the mountain, on his way down talent-wise - when he got to Boston. He is in fact giving us the remainder of that and more.

The great thing is that what he has left combined with Rajon's, Paul's, Ray's and our team composition now means so much in effectively squeezing out that remaining greatness of KG.

He may not have mad athleticism anymore (even though he still displays it in flashes), but he is now using his guile and wisdom as well. It's for this reason why I am comfortable with him taking on Bosh and Booz.

Those two will have a lot to deal with. I'm sure they believe they are physically ready for KG - but are they mentally ready for him? Not many are.

Paul Pierce is the same way.

As their athleticism (slowly IMO) declines, they worked harder and adjusted their own games to still be two of the best players are their respective positions.

Exactly. That is why IMO what happened in Summer of 2007 will NEVER be duplicated again...some may come close, like NY - I like what they've done.

But MIA? Great talent indeed - but just not the right stuff, IMO. That is why whether it's 6 or 7 games Boston will beat the MIA Heat over the next couple of weeks, and then move on to either CHI or ORL. And finally LA. LA owes us one.

TP, love that interview.

People can question whether or not KG's a dirty player or a "tough guy", but no one should ever doubt his desire and will to win. His passion and intensity for the game is like no other.

Just look at the part that's 4.25 minutes in...you don't see that kind of emotion anymore.

It aint about me, it's about us - perfectly describes KG's character

I admittedly only followed KG a little from afar while he was in Minny. With the way Boston was back in the day, I could only dream of Boston acquiring him - until Summer of 07.

When I first saw this vid, I really thought this guy was not playing with a full deck - seriously.

But Kevin Garnett is in fact Real...no fillers with this guy at all.

I loved the part towards the end - with Sheed in Detroit. Lord knows it would've been so sweet for Sheed to get one here....so close.

But back to the thread. I am treasuring these final years of our Core Four and what KG brings to the team.

TP, great clip, great interview. Guys like KG are very rare indeed. I'd say he's most like Bird to me. Jordan and Magic were just as great in their own way, but they had more light hearted personalities on and off the court. They were serious but more animated characters.

Bird & KG are like possessed personalities when it comes to game time. It is ALL buinsess and a very serious matter - they are not out there trying to make friends with anyone.

You have to love it and I'm really happy for KG that he landed in Boston on the downside of his career so that he cold play in the arena that he was truly meant for - that is, serious contention for a championship every year he puts on a uniform.

We've had some real bad luck with injuries the last three years and I don't think it's just age - we've just had some bad luck as well.

If not, I think we could easily be going for four straight right now. Think about it -

2009 - Lakers beat Orlando, with a healthy KG and Powe - I like our chances

2010 - We lose Perkins in game 6 of the finals? Touhg enough to adjust mid season to that - but in game six of the finals?

2011 - Lost of injuries that will now make our path harder as we lost home court advantage, in addition to a very unfortunate and nagging injury for Shaq...

If the Lakers had experienced 1/2 the injuries we have these last three seasons, I doubt very much they would have raised two banners.

I'm just hoping KG & company can get one more ring before they ride off into the sunset.

That would mean three trips to the final in four years, with two rings - not a bad haul.

PS: Can anyone imagine what KG, Pierce and Ray would be like if they had gotten together in their primes? They would absolutely crush anything the league is offering right now.

Good points, Scooby-doo - that has been discussed on here before - KG, Ray and Paul getting together in their primes.

I was not aware of KG's intangibles that much while in Minny, but the way he played there I would not be surprised if even with the scenario you brought up a younger Big Three still making it work.

I think KG has always been about winning...I loved Paul even in his younger years, but it did not seem to me that he was ready to truly lead - up until he had that fateful meeting with Antoine Walker in the playoffs - on the bench - when 'Toine was urging him to play better.

I think from that point on - Paul really got it. I don't fault him for his immature years and his frustration, though - playing in Boston has got to be one of the hardest places to win in...just so much tradition. So much to live up to.

But I think Paul really got it, after that 'Toine talk.

Ray? I would guess he would change, too - but maybe not in the first season. In his prime he was so used to taking (and making) so many shots. I am lazy to dig up his defensive stats right now, but I'd venture to guess that defensively he would have to adjust, too.

We'd still need Doc Rivers to make it work....and a decent PG. And our center had to work, too.

But I think out of KG, Ray and Paul? KG would come the most Championship-Ready, IMO.
