  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Out of all the clowns on ESPN, I don't mind this trio.
They stand up for the players a lot too which I like.
They give respectful opposing views which the average listener can relate too.
I loved the way they defended Garnett and called 'Player X' a probable bust who didn't make the playoffs.(might be some insider info there).
Van Gundy and Jackson do ham it up a bit but it's fun for the most part.
One of my favorite moments of the year...

"Welcome to the blooper real, you BIG BABY!" when Davis misses the wide open dunk against the Heat earlier this year.

Couldn't stop laughing.
I hate ESPN in general but I will give these guys credit for making the telecast enjoyable and serious enough for fans of all aspects.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I do like Van Gundy at times, but some of the stuff he says is ridiculous!

Better to be ridiculous and entertaining than normal and boring.  Hey, it works for Charles Barkley.

I don't mind having announcers who hate the Celtics.  You know why?  Because it is so much fun listening them be miserable when the C's are crushin'.

If the three man announce team for a national broadcast was a solid, neutral play-by-play guy, Tommy, and a homer color commentator for the other team, would you love it or hate it?

Did someone mention Tommy H yet? If not, there it is.

That said, I love 'm all. Even JvG. They bring something to debate about with your comrades while you watch bball.

These guys are the worst trio in the league. They are easily biased towards the Lakers and Heat at all times. When the Celtics are playing well its never about how well the Celtics are playing, its always about how the other team isn't playing well. And half the time they are talking about stuff that isn't even related to the game!

A major player will get 4 or 5 fouls, and they don't even realize or mention it, just keep chatting on about some unrelated crap. I still remember the Miami game when Lebron threw the ball at JO after a hard foul, Van Gundy didn't understand why they called a T on Lebron and said he had every right to throw the ball!

I do like Van Gundy at times, but some of the stuff he says is ridiculous!

When I watch games and am forced to listen to them, I seriously mute the TV and time the DVR just right so that I can get the live radio feed going instead.

And to the point that ABC doesn't do replays on questionable calls, I 100% agree, and it definitely ticks me off. They talk about it but never show it, only showing highlights of other plays.

Anyways, just my thoughts. Haven't posted in quite awhile, done with my rant..

~J

I know the exact play your talking about and IMO Van Gundy was right. Van Gundy's stand has clearly been players should be able to react. So basically when a guy almost knocks you on your ass you shouldn't be penalized for reacting. People act like JO only gave Lebron a love tap, but when a guy like Lebron is running at you at full speed it takes a lot of force to knock him backwards, which JO did. I know if it was me I would've reacted.

IMO, JVG gets lumped with the other two. The other two guys dictate the conversation. JVG is the basketball mind, Marc Jackson is player perspective, Breen is supposed to be the unbiased casual fan. Breen points things out the other two discuss in between that Marc Jackson expresses his man crush for the best player on the court.

I can't get mad at Marc Jackson he can't help himself. He's like a little kid who gets to talk about his heroes play basketball. Marc Jackson impersonation "wow Kobe! oh look it's like Lebron! Dwight Howard coooooooool!". He loves top players I understand. Breen, on the other hand, can't be forgiven, the Celtics play great defense the opposing team isn't playing well, the Celtics play bad O the opposing team is playing great D, The Celtics get a questionable call he points it out, the Celtics get jobbed by a ref his lips are sealed. Breen is a slandering Edited for profanity.  Please do not do it again.!

I absolutely enjoy listening to this trio. More so than Mike and Tommy.

I can't stand listening to biased broadcasting and Tommy probably ranks way up there. And that is understandable. It's obvious why he's the way he is. However, I still prefer unbiased broadcasting.

Also, you have got to be kidding calling these guys biased.  They are by far the most unbiased broadcasters you'll ever find.  They label 50/50 calls as 50/50 instead of giving the Celtics favor. Guess who does that? duh.
Mark Jackson doesn't have whole lot in his bag so he says the things over and over but other than that, these guys are absolutely great.

If you like listening to extermely-knowledgeble-baketball-minded broadcaster, JVG is it. Oh yeah, you can tell he loves the Celtics basketball.

I just don't like them doing NY games.  They get "overly excited" if you know what I mean....

I try and give him the benefit of the doubt, and consider that maybe he says some of the ridiculous things he does to try and start a debate/discussion with the other announcers. Not impressed overall.

This was a good example of what I was saying. Claiming that players should be able to react to what happens in games is fine. Saying you should be able to throw the ball at someone because you thought they gave you a hard foul is ridiculous.

The adulation from the trio to the Celts while whallopping NY for most of the game was just as understandable as the excitement of the Knick comeback. I actually was waiting for it. The Celts are famous for blowing large leads. I'd take Breem over Gorman anytime. Johnny Most was better on his sick bed.

Actually I'm not a big fan of someone telling me what I'm seeing. Do we need 3 announcers hyping a game that we can see? That was OK during radio days. I mute most of games with the exception of the exceptions, and record all games televised in my area then replay the games in a little over an hour.
