We shall see if he stays healthy. But as of right now I'll take Jermaine over Perk.

And I am suprised to say that, because I have not been a J.O. fan since he was a kid for the Blazers and early on in his Pacer days.

But the fact  that he Blocks shot at a similar rate. Is a better athlete and is much quicker getting of the ground and has a better Vertical that's for sure.

And he's money from ten to fifteen feet which is something that Perk just could never do regularly.

Not Perk bashing I still love the guy, and I wish we still had him.

Just saying that a healthy Jermaine is playing better at this Moment than Perk coming back from Major knee surgery.

Step it up Jeff Green, I'm going to start calling him a bum unless he does something big in one of these games.

He's had a few great games and it's nice seeing but let's see if he can be consistent. The main telling point being next series, with a gimpy Shaq were really going to need JO to continue to be solid. I am getting more confident with each game though that he can fill Perks role just fine if not better in regard to post injured Perk.

JO's a 6-time All-Star who'll play more minutes than Perk would have, but trade doubters would point out how strong the C's would be if we had both of them for the run.

Well it was our advantage and big talk of the offseason the combination of JO/Perk/Shaq would have been scary

The instant offense off the bench and stretch the floor crap with Green so far has been a fail

If Shaq comes back all three could have been healthy as well

No Doubt in my opinion, has done a great career and he is an All Star Caliber. Perk is a Role Player, just a good defender in c's System. but is offense is terrible, he don't have a mid range shot, don't have ball handling. Is a Solid Rebounder, but a normal player.

Jermaine is delicate and his knees are crystal, but he is a better Player in every foundamental. I Think that Jermaine is the best "blocker" of the nba

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
He is doing well- but they are completely different.
You can't really judge him until he has banged it up with guys like boozer, noah, bynum and Gasol when it REALLY counts.
Perkins was a much better defensive rebounder than jermaine will ever be. Jermaine is weaker at boxing out and bodying up once a shot goes up- which gives the opposition more offensive rebounds and second chance point attempts.
Perkins is better at forcing big guys away from the basket, where as jermaine has better timing getting his hand up for blocks- particularly when players are coming from the right side of the key to the rim.
I would give the advantage to Perk because of his ability to control dangerous offensive centers without help plus his boxing out/defensive rebounding.
And yes I do understand you are talking about post injury Perk.

Jermaine has been unreal and completely exceeded most peoples expectations. It's funny how quickly people forget how good he was for the Heat in the regular season last year. Injuries will do that.

They're both tough and dirty and they both have strengths and weaknesses.
One thing that annoys me about jermaine is that he cannot go straight up with the ball. Perk had a similar problem where even on jumpshots- they both bring the ball to their hip before releasing which means alot of easy blocks from help defense.
very irritating.

i'd say i'd give perk a slight edge overall, maybe 55%-45%.Close call though.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

Agree with the OP.  I just hope he can stay healthy.  Shaq's better too when healthy.

Don't see the point of comparing Perk and JO but I do think that JO has been tremendous so far and that his defensive impact has been really amazing, he is the backbone of our defense so far, ahead of KG.

Yeah. Perk is a much better rebounder and a better overall defender. He doesn't have JO's offensive talent, but he was a good fit in our offense because he knew our sets.

As clover said, I would have liked to have both. 48 minutes of legit center play would have been a big matchup advantage for us.

Guess we would have to see once we meet them in the finals  ;)

But JO has been very good the last 3 games somuch so thatI don't miss Perk at all.

Well...  yeah!  JO's playing great ball, a lot better than I think any of us thought he's ever be able to play again, but he's still only on the floor for ~25 minutes a game.  To have Perk out there manning the middle the rest of the time instead of BBD or Krstic, I mean... c'mon, no one can tell me that wouldn't be phenomenal.

I hear you, that was my point.

But JO was up to 27 minutes last night and I bet he'd play 30+ through the next series, then ratchet up his minutes again at each further level.  Perk may never have gone for more than about 25 minutes in the playoffs, but I bet JO will.

The question at this point isn't would they be better if they also had Perk, because it sure looks like they would, but rather do they have enough to win?  Which we'll see.

If they win (and they sure looked good last night), it's because the starting five are absolute freakin' warriors.  Can't help but worry that unless Green, Baby, et al step up, they're going to wear down.  The bench is just absolute garbage right now.

There's more than a little risk in asking JO to extend his minutes, but they may have to unless BBD returns to his early-season form.  Don't see Krstic being part of the answer.
