Perk importance in a game will never be defined by his numbers. His defense, leadership, and the other things he does to help his teammates won't show up in a box score.  He boxes out, sets picks, tips out rebounds to teammates.  He's still doing all that.  He doesn't have all of his mobility or lift back and that will probably take till next year as he is still getting back from the injury.
This is remarkably similar to what Green fans argue when defending him. "His numbers don't tell the whole story, needs more time to get into the system", etc. I don't buy into that either way.

Perk's numbers in Boston did tell a lot of the story, when he was playing very well in the first half of 2009-2010 season, his PER was high, his TS% was ridiculously high, his rebounding numbers were up (not his rebounding impact), and the team's defensive numbers were better with him in the game than him out. When he trailed off last year (after reportedly some normal wear and tear type injuries) everything except the D started to drop.

He should still be high efficiency (even with low utilization) plus getting rebounds (and blocks) and making the D better if playing well. Those things DO show up in the box score (or at least the sabremetric box score.)

I hope not.  Because right now he's bordering on averaging more techs per game than points.  Your paying 8/9 Million per for that ?

'Not I', said Danny Ainge.

Count me in.  My money is on Ainge.

Did you guys see what looked like Perk being escorted off the floor yesterday by security?

Didn't see that, but I did see Nene toss him to the ground like a rag doll.  I'm not sure teams are really afraid of Perk, at least not anymore.

Brendan, I think we should have a ongoing thread regarding Perks numbers in its entirety.

People want to chime in on what Perk would do here if he was still a Celtic.  What about what the Celtics did for him ?  Playing with the core 4 is often overlooked, and it shouldn't be.  Lining up next to KG is a blessing, and shouldn't be overlooked as well.

Since he's been in OKC, he's posting his worst stats in the 5 years he's been in the playoffs. ORtg, DRtg, WS/48, BLK%, eFG%, PER, etc.  Only 1 round of course.  5 games.  Lets give him a break with that, but if the poor performances continue, it will start getting clearer and clearer.

During the regular season in OKC, he's posted his worst numbers overall since his first two years in the league !

Let's be fair now, he's coming off a bad knee and surgery.  Plus, a new system.

But is he missing the support he had here with superior players ? Even more perhaps than what he dished out ?

Time will tell.

Yes - I think that's a worthy discussion for another thread. At the same time if people will use the (Perk >>> his numbers) argument, then its worth considering his playoff numbers with OKC versus his baseline with the C's.

This year he's down, in OKC and in Boston as well.  Very comparable to his Celt years, pre-KG.

So whats up with this pre-KG stuff ?  Do people forget that easily ?  People want to cripple Jeff Green and his defense in his 3rd or 4th year in the league, what were they doing with Perk when he was 3/4 years deep ? Before KG, his defensive numbers were generally awful - including his 3rd and 4th year when he was getting real minutes. Awful. You already know what his offense was like, because that hasn't changed.

I would of hated to see the blog back then giving up on him, which they most likely did.  The same ones that didn't want to let go of Perkins probably are the same ones that gave up on him in his 3rd or 4th year in the league.

I though this was going to be a thread about Perkins' performance game by game for those who didn't watch but still feel some attachment to the guy. Seems the thread became another forum for saying way Perk is a good player/isn't a good player.

Too hot a topic to discuss without debate.

A lot of people are discussing his numbers and performance objectively on this thread.

At the moment though the guy isn't performing and there is a question on whether he is as important as some say. That's a fair enough debate to have.

Nice game by Perk tonight.  11 points, 9 rebounds, and good defense on Nene (8 points on 33% shooting).

Glad to see OKC moving on.

Perk didn't play so well today: 6 rebs, 2 pts, 1 asst, 0 blocks, and only 2 pfs.

Where's the aggressive Perk we all know and love?

Saying he didn't play "so well" is putting it pretty nice. He looked like he was 40, and was getting destroyed by gasol and Zbo =/

He's missing his partners in crime.  Namely the core 4.

How many minutes did he wind up playing ?
