Let's just remember this though, when those 50/50 calls go against the C's later in the playoff run.

Exactly, it all evens out.  When a gift comes...I will accept it with open arms.

Through out the playoffs they are letting teams play.  The way it's supposed to be.

Well, at least that was the case last night with the Cs and Knicks, who had 18 and 16 FTA, respectively.  Not so much the case with other series (eg: SA had 47 FTAs, Memphis, LA, NOH 33 FTAs each).

In an ideal world, the refs will let the players play.  Let's hope it keeps up for the rest of the series.

The only thing about the KG screen is it happened so quickly, there are about 10 million moving screens a game, and that one in particular happened right after a no call on Melo when he mugged Pierce.

no sympathy whatsoever as I've seen the refs rob us more than a few times. Its just balancing it all out if we get a little help every once in a while. Besides New York still got their chance to win the game and Melo blew it

You don't have to have sympathy and of course we've been screwed before but if that happened to us Celtic nation would be throwing a witch hunt out on those refs.
Garnett must have been shocked that there was a no call on that last screen.

I'm not trying to take anything away from our guys I just hope people remember how lucky we were tonight to steal this victory.
Fact is we couldn't have done it without the refs tonight and I hope people remember that.

Good news is Ray Allen is back and Rondo almost had a triple double. JO has exceeded expectations too.

Yea im sorry i just disagree completely with the sentiment of this post. When other teams get unfair calls, and we lose the game, i'll blame the refs but i'll also blame moments where we blew our chances or the other team executed better. Give appropriate credit to both. But it just seems like your giving more credit to the calls than ray's clutch shooting, doc's awesome out of bounds plays, JO's big bucket, and Pierce's lockdown D on Melo. All those things far outweigh a couple iffy calls so I dont agree at all.

this is great in theory, but in this game, if not for the officiating...we would be down 1-0 instead of up 1-0.

I am not taking credit away from the teams effort- it was amazing and we deserved the chance to win the game with Ray Allen. I can just imagine if this 1 minute was reversed in our situation we would be LIVID just like NYC fans would be right now.

The Paul Pierce foul was a doozey and was pathetic in my opinion considering he is a renowned flop artist- I guess that's the advantage I have of instant replay compared to the refs gut decision on the court.

We don't know that.  Say that offensive foul wasn't called?  Melo had been off all night.  He could have missed on that possession just as easily as scored.  Also, who's to say that we wouldn't have gotten a 3 despite the illegal screen by KG?  Also, Ray made the shot.  Open or not, he still had to make the shot, and he did.

Yes, we got lucky calls from the refs there in the end, but the Knicks let us back into the game long before that, and that falls on their play, not the referees.  If you let a team back into the game like that, chances are they're going to get calls down the stretch, because clearly they're outplaying you.  I didn't see any "foul play" by the referees to let us back into the game, even if we did luck out in the last minute or so.

Although I wish games were officiated more evenly, I've seen MANY games and series affected by the outcome of a call, or a no call.  This doesn't bother me, because I know there will be a game or series somewhere down the line where we won't get the calls like that, and we might even get bad calls against us.  I'll take what we can get, knowing it'll bite us in the behind at some point.

We may have caught a break on the Melo offensive foul. Other than that we didn't catch any luck from the refs, I would even argue that we were the only home team that didn't benefit a LOT from the officiating. Check out the Lakers, Bulls and Spurs games, the FT differential is quite amazing for the home team.

Lakers FTA - 33
Hornets FTA - 33

Celtics FTA - 18
Knicks FTA - 16

There aren't 10 million moving screens a game, where the screeners poked out elbow and foot cause the opposing player to be leveled to the ground, making him unable to recover to his assignment =/....Those are pretty much always called.

There were missed calls against the C's too, but nothing anywhere near as blatant as the illegal screen by KG, and I think the offensive foul they called on Melo basically made up for any issues we could have had with prior calls. That offensive foul is something NEVER called against a star...let alone in that situation with the game on the line.

If the Knicks fans are saying the refs gave us that game, I wouldn't disagree. I'd just say thats why you fight for homecourt, and we'll see you back at MSG.

Two plays in our favor don't make a game win or loss. Pierce was definitely pressured by Caramel and the only Celt to get moving pick calls was Perk.
Agreed.

I'll be the first to call out the refs if it's a one sided game-see game seven last year in LA. One call at the end doesn't hand a win to one team or the other. If we were getting those all game long, I would say that the refs played a big part in the win. It does happen more than it should in the NBA, and it is a problem that Stern needs to fix but won't.
But this was not the case last night. I saw a few instances where we should have taken FT's after getting mugged by NY.

Back to wanting Joe fired.

And that while more contact tends to be allowed later in games, last-play situations tend to border on rugby.  You usually have to really clobber a guy who's shooting the ball to get a last-second foul call in the NBA, and sometimes that's not even enough.

BTW, regardless of whether the calls themselves were legit, it's interesting to see all the "two wrongs make a right" arguments in this thread.  Sports and politics really do produce very similar thinking when you get down to it.

For as long as I have been going to games, the Knicks have, by far, drawn the largest number of opposing team fans at the Garden. It makes sense, we are close and we are a college town where many stay after school.

It also makes sense that there are many here who secretly still harbor a little love for their old team. :P

Let it go boys, you're in Boston now!

If you're going to make a case for the officials giving us the game....I guess justice prevailed.  Since they pretty much gave the Heat and the Bulls their first playoff games.

Really?  Hmmmm.  I seem to recall a very similar play in the playoff's against Indiana where Pierce was called for a flagrant and that one was not nearly as cut and dry since Tinsley obviously flopped big time. And that one was quite literally with the game on the line since there were just seconds left and the Celtics were up at the time. So don't give me this "garbage call" and "never called against a star" crap.  It was a foul and the ref had to call it since it happened right in front of his face.

Those are called against stars all the time, including against players better than Melo.

Being a star is irrelevant. Throwing an obvious and unmistakable forearm is what is relevant. You can't get away with that easily in an iso play which is slow moving and easy to watch develop.

It is a bit bizarre that people would reference an obviously correct call as a way to complain about refs. It shows how there really is nothing that refs can do to please certain people.
