Once again, Tommy is right on the mark. For those who dismiss his credibility, he has seen and played in and coached more celtics games than almost anyone else alive, he knows exactly what he's talking about.

It's weird, I felt very strongly that over the last 7 or 8 years Tommy had become less and less connected with todays game.  He knew the C's, but he didn't seem to keep up with the rest of the league.  Part of it might have been because Mike was so good, and knew everything about every player, the bar was set so high, but I just always got the feeling that he was just watching the Celtics game, and never really doing the extra work to learn the other games.

However, over the last year or so (unfortunately, probably starting around when his wife died), I have seen a change.  He has been throwing out some strong information about other teams, and it is clear he has been watching a lot of basketball other than just the games he was being paid to watch.

Of course the other side is over this same period of time, he also has seemed to have been becoming more and more over the top, and harder for Mike to handle.  He was always on the edge, but lately I always feel like he is on the verge of throwing a beer bottle at the referees, and just going completely off the deep end....but he still seems more connected with todays NBA than he has been in years.

The more I think about it the more I think its bologna also. These are proffesionals, Pierce, Ray, KG, Shaq, JO etc have been around to say the least. Maybe Rondo misses him a little bit but I dont think thats effecting his play, Rondo is a different beast in the post-season & he's gunna show it.

Did he blame all our problems on the refs and Felger?
No he talked about the troubles of bringing in 5 new players and developing a rotation with them.

He also stressed Rondo's play and importance to the team, alluded to his foot issues. He mentioned Shaq and how the C's need 20 minutes out of him.
I could be mistaken, but the way I heard it was that we'll be fine without Shaq (and shouldn't expect him to be back), and that 20 minutes was the most we could expect.  He basically said if Rondo plays well we're good, if Rondo plays like he has been then we're in trouble, regardless of all else.

This is from memory from a hazy commute, so apologies if this isn't accurate.  I'm not able to find a recording of the interview online at the moment.

Yep, the guy who has never seen the Celtics commit a foul in his 30-plus years of broadcasting.

Actually, if you watch the national broadcasts he did in the 80's he was never biased. But he doesn't feel that's his job as a Celtics announcer.

I'll agree there.  I love him, he's like that one drunk uncle that you love to be around, but he'll say some totally reckless things.  The man is 76 years old, I just think it's time for him to walk away.  I know his wife passed, and he loves doing it,  but you're right I feel like at any possible moment, he could just go after a referee.  Your point about Gorman being so good that it may make Tommy look bad may be right.  In my mind Gorman is the best in the business, plain and simple.  I love Tommy, but I would be open to some new blood there(not Donny Marshall).

The celtics were struggling before the Perking trade, and they struggled last year just as bad as this one.

Again, I am not saying that the trade was good or bad. But the trade is not the reason for why the celtics are struggling.

I don't.  It would be funny initially,  but it would also be a very sad sad ending to a great career.

We are very lucky to have Tommy doing the broadcasts for as long as he wants to do it. When I'm watching the game on the celtics home channel, I don't want unbiased commentary, I want someone like Tommy. It's always painful to watch the ABC or TNT broadcasts and the endless stream of ignorant comments and blind love for lebron, wade, and whatever media darling of the moment. Tommy's home team commentary at least balances out the trash people hear on the other networks, and like it or not, he knows his stuff, and so does Gorman. So he hates the refs, big deal, he has hated them his whole career as a player and as a coach, it's not going to change now. You gotta love his groans when the celtics make poor plays too, classic.

It's too bad Tommy is so far gone

He's a Hall Of Fame player, coach, and analyst. And he's right.

Being a hall of famer is irrelevent to the fact that he is one of the biggest Homers in the game today.  It doesn't take a genius to figure out why guards are flying in for easy layup after easy layup on us now.  The thought that it has nothing to do with Perk's absence is...I can't even think of a kind word for it.

Yet strangely our defense has been just as good without Perkins.

We're falling behind not because people score easily on the C's, but instead that the C's can't score themselves.

Even William Wallace would say that's an epic way to go out.
