Tommy on team still hurting from Perk trade: "That's bologna"

I don't know if any of you saw Mike & Mike in the morning this morning, but Tommy was on there and asked whether the Perk trade still has lingering effects on the Celtics, in which he immediately dismissed that.

I'll have a link to the interview as soon as I can find one (unless someone else does first!), but I find this interesting considering he DID think for a while, to my knowledge, that the Celtics were in trouble, like in a real bad place.

Danny was on the big show yesterday and started laughing out loud when Ordway suggested the trade was  affecting Rondo's play.  Danny said it was rondo's hand and feet that were bothering him as well as him being a bit worn down and pacing himself.  He said a couple of times that he thinks the whole team was pacing themselves down the stretch.

I could be mistaken, but the way I heard it was that we'll be fine without Shaq (and shouldn't expect him to be back), and that 20 minutes was the most we could expect.  He basically said if Rondo plays well we're good, if Rondo plays like he has been then we're in trouble, regardless of all else.

I guess the saying goes "out of sight out of mind"..since the media and everyone stopping mentioning his foot issues(ankle and plantar fasciitis) I guess a lot of people forgot about it? I know I remember hearing plantar fasciitis takes months to get rid of, and that's WITH resting it..and here's Rondo playing night in and night out with it. Same for the ankle, sprained ankles can take awhile to heal, same situation with playing on it night in and night out.

I've said to myself for a while now that Rondo himself is just conserving himself for the playoffs, so he can go all out then instead of doing it in the regular season and possibly hurting himself even more for the playoffs. It would only make sense if others were conserving themselves also knowing how hard these playoffs will be.

He downplayed Shaq's impact due to only being able to give 20 minutes at best. He didn't say we shouldn't expect him back.

Whether its true or not (I personally believed the Perk thing was always just a convenient excuse), I am glad everyone involved with the C's seems to be taking a united stance to not use that excuse anymore.

Ainge said the same thing on WEEI yesterday, as did Pierce and Doc.  At this point, they can see that it is just an excuse, and now that the playoffs are here, excuses like that do not hold any water.

They know that an excuse like that can let them slide by if they aren't playing well, but now that the playoffs are here, they are going to have to take ownership for their play.

Once again, Tommy is right on the mark. For those who dismiss his credibility, he has seen and played in and coached more celtics games than almost anyone else alive, he knows exactly what he's talking about.
