Amidst the ton of posts about Perk, I see lots of comments about his knee injury and potential risk. What about his shoulder problems? He's had surgeries and a bunch of DL stints, and I thought it was a chronic condition. For a guy who likes to bang with the bigs, he is always one good hit from a dislocated shoulder.

I gotta agree with this statement.  No need to start bagging on Perk to make yourself feel better about the trade.  He worked his arse off for this franchise.

Perk plays for another team now. Let's talk about the celtics, it's playoff time. We can talk about perk once we hang 18
Andy Bernard doesnt lose constests. He wins them, or he quits them because they're unfair.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

I gotta agree with this statement.  No need to start bagging on Perk to make yourself feel better about the trade.  He worked his arse off for this franchise.

The problem with that is that signing him would have locked him up for an extended period of time. If we had him then we can forget going after Dwight Howard or Nene or Randolph- the real big money boys who crush Perk in terms of $ value.
If you get rid of him you get that free cash and the ability to still have a team that can contend. What if Perkins had received the injury that Shaq has or was out for the same amount of time this season?
It's unlucky the way it has panned out but financially some people don't understand the business side of this basketball franchise. We are going to be able to go after every top free agent next year and could quite possibly get two new superstars to play with Rondo. (ie Granger and Howard).
Signing Perkins to a 5-6 year deal to give this team one more shot(while he is recovering and holds further injury risks) is not the best move for this ball club.
Getting a back up for Paul Pierce and Garnett in Jeff Green and a very solid back up center was required.
Risky yes, but it was needed.
You can't criticize this trade until the season is over. I would even go as far to say that you can't criticise this trade until you see who we pick up next year with all the money we'll have.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Nope.

Also haven't forgot about how tough our interior defense was with him either

I miss Perks work ethic and the fact he wasn't scard to push, elbow, get in thier faces, hit , cheat or what ever to get the job done. Krstic is a nice offensive weapon , but plays like a girl.

We need a REAL center again.  Not a fragile , small boned skinny bean pole.

I haven't forgotten how bad it sucked before we HAD a real center.  I haven't forgotten about relying on guys like Mark Blount and Tony Battie and Vitaly Potapeko in the middle.  I haven't forgotten how bad it sucked to always be getting beat on the glass.  Took a long time and a lot of development to finally have a legitimate presence at the 5.

It's not that easy to find a good center, and it's not that cheap to sign one.

Back then when we had Blount, Battie and Vitaly...we had a heck of lot more problems than the Center spot.

At the rate things are going I'd be happy to accept Perk's shoulder problems in exchange for Krstic and Green's can't-play-basketball problems.

Nice post, TP.  That's how I feel.  I like centers who thrive on body contact.  Shaq is the only one we have who doesn't mind the contact.
