it's all about 18 and the now he looks fine to me
I gotta agree with this statement. No need to start bagging on Perk to make yourself feel better about the trade. He worked his arse off for this franchise.
The problem with that is that signing him would have locked him up for an extended period of time. If we had him then we can forget going after Dwight Howard or Nene or Randolph- the real big money boys who crush Perk in terms of $ value.
If you get rid of him you get that free cash and the ability to still have a team that can contend. What if Perkins had received the injury that Shaq has or was out for the same amount of time this season?
It's unlucky the way it has panned out but financially some people don't understand the business side of this basketball franchise. We are going to be able to go after every top free agent next year and could quite possibly get two new superstars to play with Rondo. (ie Granger and Howard).
Signing Perkins to a 5-6 year deal to give this team one more shot(while he is recovering and holds further injury risks) is not the best move for this ball club.
Getting a back up for Paul Pierce and Garnett in Jeff Green and a very solid back up center was required.
Risky yes, but it was needed.
You can't criticize this trade until the season is over. I would even go as far to say that you can't criticise this trade until you see who we pick up next year with all the money we'll have.
