Remember Joe Johnson in Boston? We shouldn't let anyone slip out of our hands because of one season

I rest my case

Bradley's performance is much closer to JR Giddeons and Bill Walker than Joe Johnson.

One decent game and now we'll have to hear about this guy all summer from the Kool-Aid crew. Kill me now.

Did you see how horrible Joe Johnson or Billups were in their rookie season?

People, relax.

Avery Bradley is a very good player with a lot of upside. I live here in Texas and watched many of his games. Before getting hurt during workouts, many people thought he would be a late lottery pick. He has been given the "Hands off,no trade" label from the C's. He really brings it on the defensive end go back and look at any scouting service pre-draft, he was called the best perimeter defender hands down.

I have most likely seen more of him than anyone here and I know he will be just fine. Much better than Pruitt, Green or yes, Delonte.

Both showed more than Bradley, btw how many times are you going to rest your case?

Joe Johnson started out great, exceeding expectations, then tailed off.  He clearly had promise.

Billups also showed much more immediate promise than Bradley, though his handle was not yet tight enough.  It took him a few years and a few NBA stops to get that under control.

Despite what I just posted about Johnson and Billups, it was nice to see Bradley play well last night and realize there was some sense in drafting him.

For anyone who didn't watch the game last night, here is the problem. To put frankly, the kid is an awful pg. I mean downright awful.  Even when there is no pressure on him, he has trouble running the offense. And by that I mean he is practically the worse I have ever seen trying to do it. And when the defender puts any pressure at all, Avery turns into a train wreck.

Sure, he scored some last night. But there were also several plays in there where he looked awful (getting his shot blocked and throwing it away). The reason doc and da praise this kid the way they do is that they don't want to admit they made a mistake.

And spare me this 20 years old stuff. I think we all know he isn't a pg. But really, the best ones are natural pg's.  But if you think he is going to learn how to be one in the NBA, you are sorely mistaken.

Bottom line, I would be shocked if Avery is in the NBA two years from now.

Yeah, he sure didn't look like a PG to me.  Best-case, he can develop into a Delonte-like combo guard, but he did not look comfortable just handling the ball last night, much less trying to run the offence.

But, if he can develop into being at least a serviceable third-string PG (in addition to playing as a small offguard), that's more valuable that if he's only playing the 2.  Because he's just not big enough to play the 2 exclusively.

I would put Bradley more in the Bill Walker, Gabe Pruuitt, Giddings category than the Joe Johnson category.

Why would you put him in such a low category?

Bad on what I saw this year. I saw potential and that is about it. I also saw potential in those other guys.

Bradley should lock himself in the gym and work on his ball-handling during the summer. He has a potential to be a nice role player who can come of the bench and change the complexion of the game defensively by pressuring full court, forcing turnovers and overall being a pest and also using his athleticism to get out on breaks.

But he is downright awful offensively now. He needs to vastly improve his ball handling and work on his jumper so that he's not such a big liability on that end.
