A black guy, a rapist and a homophobe walk into a bar and everyone is like, 'What's up, Kobe?'
You are no longer black, or brown, or yellow, or red! You are now GREEN, you are light GREEN, or dark GREEN!

Kobe has a right to use the language he prefers.  And I have the right to hate what he represents.  Or I guess "hate it more."

I agree with this analysis.  Lets not allow leaders sanitize everything, let the players have their emotion outbursts.

What Kobe said was wrong and completely out of line no matter what. I don't hold bias too because it also applies to the derogatory words of KG and the actions of Paul. I think yea it's in the heat of the moment, but Kobe should have thought about what he said. What he said was heard by everyone including young children and that was from a person at the game.
Also off topic a bit, but I heard that a lot of players don't respect Kobe or even like Kobe a bit because of his attitude. They say Kobe's not even liked by some of his teammates because of his attitude. They say the players like Duncan, KG, and DWade respect Kobe as a person, but the young players don't. That's why players such as Perk have been as of recently able to get to Kobe in a physical way. The person even said Ray as quiet as it's kept isn't too fond Kobe, but respects him as player talent wise.

This is like if Phil Jackson had been caught on tv calling a ref a f*word coon (wouldn't happen)... people would lose their minds. Gay people should be able to watch a game and not be worried about seeing one of the most popular athletes in the world using language on tv that has been used to bash them... they deserve the same respect as anyone else! It's not like Villaneuva's he said/"she" said... everyone and their momma could see what Kobe said. What's his appeal gonna be, someone fixed the feed (of live footage) to make it seem like I said that when I clearly was saying "Fun king forgot"?

um he might have been using the "South Park" definition for the F-bomb.  Watch last season's South Park where they delved into the racially insensitive definition of the F-bomb v. how everyone else uses the F-Bomb.

While I do not like sticking up for Kobe, I doubt he meant the homophobic version.
I love South Park, but that is total total bs.

I don't think he meant a small bundle of sticks.

This would be like if a white guy got caught calling a ref the n word and people were like "I don't think he meant it racially. He probably meant it endearingly. Kinda like in Huck Finn. Everyone loves N*@@#$ Jim.  That guy is our best friend.  Or maybe he just meant it in the Ron Dellums way.  You know. Like a disadvantaged class of people"

Personally I think the league has to weigh off the problem of being Thought Police with the problem of the slippery slope. If you allow this you have to allow almost anything and suddenly you're not really all that different from that all white league we talked about last year.  Remember that league? The one dedicated to a more pure form of basketball for a different cliental?

You never watched the South Park episode?  If you did you would know exactly what I meant.

Brief explanation:  One of the South Park kids gets caught telling an annoying biker that he was a "F-Bomb."  Which starts a media crazy freak show about this exact topic.  The kids point was that he has nothing against homosexuals, but this annoying biker is still a F-Bomb.  It goes to court and the kids explain there are homosexual F-Bombs and dumbasses who can still be called F-Bombs.  Meaning the kids definition was that the Biker was a dumbass not a homosexual Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. or a gathering of sticks.

The point of the show was to examine the words we use and the crazy people who want to take these words and make more of what they mean in common vernacular.

I saw that episode.  It was funnier when Chris Rock did it with the N-word 15 years ago.  People thought that gave them an excuse to use that word too.  Didn't work out well.

Slur is in your post, my post, and the title of the thread - I'm pretty sure it isn't banned.  Are you sure you didn't accidentally end it with a "t" instead of an "r"?

What's his appeal gonna be, someone fixed the feed (of live footage) to make it seem like I said that when I clearly was saying "Fun king forgot"?

If kg actually said what Charlie claimed, then I think that was A LOT worse than what Kobe said.  In the kg case, it (allegedly) was a pointed personal attack, that wasn't just in the heat of the moment. To draw on a persons medical background, and use that to degrade them, is a completely different level, than throwing out a word like the one Kobe used, without thought in a moment of anger.

The word Kobe used has special significance for gay people, but for a much larger group of people, it has unfortunately become just a blanket negative term, used much the same way as "idiot".  I'm sure most people would agree, that degrading someone for having cancer is significantly worse than calling them idiot.

Still...I dont really think a big deal should've been made about either.  Sticks and stones etc.

I am afraid I'm going to have to agree with Dtrader here.  Why was one group protected over another group.  I don't think either of these vulgarities should have been punished by the NBA though.  Too much infringement on people's personal freedom.

Point is context means everything in language.  So you can remove all N-Bombs and F-Bombs and retard and whatever from polite society, but that will do nothing to stop the ignorance.  I personally don't care what people say, call me, or call others.  Usually people who uses these terms are not educated.

Kobe fined $100,000 by Stern for what he said!

I'm glad they made an example of him.
