Sigh. Even if many fans on this blog don't believe in the psychological edge Perk gave us, a lot of players and teams apparently do. Rose is just echoing what we've already heard from the Lakers and from other teams.
Perk's presence was a lot more than just what showed up in the box score.
Ah what I miss? LOL.
Read all the posts. Seems like tempers are hot.
I watch. I listen. And then I remind.
So let me remind you all of this:
Gamblers Gamble.
Danny Ainge has always been a gambler. He's a riverboat riding, poker playing, card carrying gambler. And frankley he wins more than he loses. Think back on all the years after Red retired. And then go take out your BYU Danny Ainge basketball card and kiss it.
Ainge singlehandedly resurrected the Celtics franchise. You guys would all be out of a job (Bloggers) and out of a hobby (forum posters) if it were not for old number 44.
And Danny has gambled again.
But its a good gamble. Repeat after me. I will trust in Danny. I will trust in Danny.
Think New York Knicks. Think Isiah Thomas. Think Boston Celtics. Think Rick Pitino.
And then repeat. I will let Danny gamble.
There are 4 seasons in the NBA. Pre-Season. meaningless. Early Regular season. Curious.
Post All Star Break. positioning. And then there is the only season that counts: Post Season.
One school of thought.
Danny gambled our post season away. We don't have the edge. We don't have the toughness.
Perkins is in OKC. Perkins is mean. We don't have anyone who is mean. No one is afraid of us.
Perkins gives intangibles.
The other school of thought.
Jeff Green is talented. Majorly talented. Kristic becomes the 3rd Center behind the O'Neal brothers. Shaq. JO.
Celtics won alot of games without Kendrick Perkins. Celtics would not have played Kendrick Perkins at the end of games. Perkins would not have resigned anyways. Jeff Green is the future.
I could go into the outcomes if the Celtics win or the Celtics lose.
Pundits will claim victory depending on what side of the trade they were on.
But I want to ask this question. On the Boston Celtics who determines whether each player is tough. Mean. Brings the Intangible?
Who would have dared call Kevin McHale tough prior to the clothesline on Rambis.
Up here in the north, some called him twinkletoes McFairy. Not after the hit on Rambis.
The Celtics need to decide to themselves how tough they are going to be. On the glass.
In the paint. In the backcourt. In the locker room.
And that decision has nothing to do with Perkins. It has everything to do with each player.
And Doc Rivers.
The playoffs will come down to Boston's ability to believe in themselves and trust in one another. That has to do with leadership and coaching. It has to do with a moody, poor free throw shooting point guard who hasn't been the same since the trade.
Regardless, it will have less to do with the trade than Derrick Rose would have you believe, or what Phil Jackson's take on the rosters are. Those guys are not gamblers, they are carneys doing carney tricks.
Danny Ainge is a gambler. Gamblers gamble.
But this post season comes down to the health of the O'Neal brothers and the ability for the rest of the players to develop their own toughness. Those are the only intangibles we need.
