In 3 seasons now, Baby had led the 2nd unit. In those same 3 seasons you have watched C's lose the #1 seed all 3 times. You have watched C's slump in the second half of the season only to blame every player to not named Baby. Truth is in those same 3 seasons that were results of injuries, Baby has given this team everything he's got, and it was never enough. Danny and Doc can think getting rid of Rasheed, House, and Nate was going to fix the problem but have to get a clue. Spacing is horrible with Baby, I can certainly see how he alone destroys our offense, especially for Ray and the aforementioned guys who he played with. It's just like this Blog to have Baby's charge watch knowing full well he's allowing way more offensive rebounds to other teams.
I don't think anyone is suggesting Glen Davis is the second coming of Kevin Garnett. But blaming the loss of the top seed on what is, at best, the fifth or sixth player on the team in terms of importance is just plain silly.

The key is that once the playoffs start, he drops back down to the 15-20 minute range.  Long enough to help the team but not so long that other teams can exploit his weaknesses.
Forget it. This team will likely close most games with Davis in the lineup, so between that and being the primary backup of Kevin Garnett, there is absolutely no way that Glen Davis will see any less than 25 minutes per contest, possibly more.

Just because he plays less minutes doesn't mean he will not be out there during crunch time.  I can just see more minutes during the middle of the game where the Celtics go "big" at the C spot.

I'm tired of what Baby is doing in his contract year, but when he plays within his role he's lethal. When he's attacking the basket, using his body to protect his shot, and moving incredibly well, he's a joy to watch.

The thing is Davis said he didn't know what his role is. To me, that means he doesn't like to be 6th man, he wants to run the show. Tony was dumb enough to say Ray and the Captain overshadowed him, Davis thinks he needs a bigger role and tries to speak on the court. I don't like it when he plays long minutes, and I'm tired of him not passing the ball, but sometimes we must blame his peers giving him the ball when the clock is near the OO mark.

In the last games, Davis has passed the ball more, and sometimes he takes a step towards the basket to increase his chances of scoring. I like those things I've seen, and even if he takes less charges, it's an improvement.

What we cannot expect from Davis is him growing 2-3 inches. The tall centers and PFs of the world score easily over him through jumpshots, but he can stay with less offensively skilled players, like Dwight Howard. If he was 6'10 or even 6'9, he would be a starter in the NBA.

Best case scenario is he's willing to resign for 3-4 mil a year. If not, the Celtics should try to sign and trade him. As some have pointed, he might not age very well, because of his size.

I am just saying that having him out there for less than 25 minutes is close to a mathematical impossibility, given his current role on the team.

He currently has (and will likely keep) the designated closer role (8 minutes), and the primary KG backup role (15 minutes) -- this is 23 minutes for him right off the bat.

I agree with you that we can see games where we go big in the middle of the game. However, even then I can't see us fielding a lineup including Shaq + JO, Shaq + Krstic or Krstic + JO -- so having them healthy doesn't cut in Davis' playing time as much as you may think.

The thing is Davis said he didn't know what his role is.
Sure he did. Was that 2, or 3 years ago?

I believe that was early this season.

BBD should be allowed to play any minute but the last minute.

His close game decision making has been horrifying.

I am expecting the 5 minute jump in playtime (at least) from KG.  (if past playoff are any pattern)

I'm hoping that Glen Davis plays a lot less C in the playoffs. I'm fine with him playing all the PF minutes that KG doesn't get.

If Jermaine can keep improving I'd rather have him close out games for defensive purposes.

I can see both he and Shaq playing crunch time minutes (if healthy) depending on matchup and situation.

If the Celtics are smart, they will allow
Davis to sign elsewhere. His infant contract over,
he's free to grab the bucks out there in the
offseason, so we'll have to wait and see how much
Danny wants him.
I think he's the type of player who will regress
with age.
