Tired of Glen Davis

Why is Doc  so obsessed with Davis?  

The primary reason is that at this point, Davis is a better power forward than all of the three players you want to see instead of him.

25 minutes is about right for him. He does look tired lately. I know they can't but it would be nice to give him a game off. Like they did with Rondo and he came back playing much better.

As for closing the game with him on the floor, I think some of that might depend on his free throw shooting. Right now it hasn't been great, so you just might see JO out there if they need the size.

I agree I don't really see a possible scenario where Baby doesn't AT LEAST play 20-25 minutes.

If he is playing anything less than that he is either doing really really really bad, he's in a lot of foul trouble, or he is injured

i really have never liked Davis but i know he is important to the team. However, he is playing too many minutes, is taking way too many shots on offense, and is not a good player when he gets winded which happens often. I would much rather see Green and Jo take more of Baby's minutes. JO is a better defender at the center position and Green, although not a great PF, plays better offense and defense at both forward positions than Baby. Baby needs to be reduced to the 20 minute mark and stop taking so many jumpers and fade aways.

To me, it has looked like Davis has been playing to sign a contract rather than blend in to nab number 18.

Big Baby does a lot of good things when he is in the game. If you stress his negatives, you'll only see him as an undersized jump shooter who has a tendency to take a bad shot here and then.

But he is the leader of the 2nd unit offensively... and defensively is wide & strong enough to play the center position. He also plays in the 4th quarter a lot when the Celtics need his offense - his ability to post up and make tough fadeaways and layups.

I am encouraged by the emergence of Jermaine O'Neal and the play of Krstic in last night's game after his return because KG and Baby need help scoring in the paint. The Celtics chances of winning go up tenfold when they've got most of their bigs rolling. And Baby's role is just as important as anyone's save KG. It is because he contributes in scoring down the stretch and toughness in terms of setting good screens and taking charges that make his presence indispensable. Plus he is the most dependable of them all because he gets injured the least when you look at the depth chart.

Wow.  Baby is having a career year.  His rebounding is much improved, and he's one of the few Celtics who can actually box out.  One of the best in the league in drawing charges, starter or not.  A big who can attack the basket and shoot the ball.  True he's not Ray Allen, he's our sixth man.  He shoots extremely well for a 6-8, 290 pound guy.  He brings hustle constantly, gets to the line and knocks down free throws at the end of the game.  Behind Odom, Terry and Marion probably the best all around bench player.  Much better than Crawford or Mayo who can score but can't do much else.  The guy even plays better under pressure.  He's been much better this year at not taking bad shots.  He's the go to guy off the bench and takes a lot his bad shots when Rondo or West run down the clock and finding nothing better throw it to him for a tough shot (which he makes often over taller guys.) He's also possibly a big part of the Celtics future and has to grow into that role sooner rather than later.  At the end of the day, Doc keeps giving him minutes despite his occasional bad shots because he earns it every day ten times over.

and another note, i agree with Roy and the rest who want to see him for only 15-20 minutes. hopefully this wish materializes in the playoffs

I did give pearljammer a tp for the playing contract line.  However when baby plays within THE TEAM GAME he is a candidate for 6th man of year.  When he drives or uses that lil hook shot its a good thing.  When he takes open jumpers within his range good.  Moves his feet well and takes charges good.  
When he has the ball on box amongst many players and doesn't pass bad.
When he thinks his range is kg like and shoots jumpers bad.
I wish he boxed out, rarely does he, then again most nba players don't.  

I put some of it on doc, if davis doesn't play within team game or plays too much he isn't that good.  As a 6th man in the 20 minute or so time line he plays with energy, hits the offensive boards and doesn't force things.  As a starter he's black hole with passing, career year taking more shots than kg, pp and ray at times   .  

I believe Glen Davis falls under the enigma title.  He can help us win a championship as far as next season fa...i would resign him at a price but I believe he thinks he's a future all star.

I did want to add in that if davis did box out he could easily force a tall player like gasol or bynum away from rebounds.  Any long big just goes over him because he doesn't do the work like cowens or silas used to
pick on him if you will but scal used to box a guy out when he was in position to do so, he generally wouldn't get rebound but at the same time his man wouldn't get it either

Let me add these stats last three games: BBd:102 mins., 1 offensive rebound, 2 for 8 free thows. Not what I call boxing out or clutch free throws down the stretch

kinda feel like baby is getting lazy out there.  He's not getting offensive Rebs like he once did, don't see him working matchups on offense, and we were all counting his charges before and where are they now?  

I'm going to give him credit for thinking of passing since the Atlanta game, cause he was seriously becoming an embarrassing black hole.  Doc really seems to have reinforced the roles on the team lately.

I disagree with the statement that Davis is the leader of the second unit.   I don't think that is true anymore...Delonte is.  And it is not fair to Glen to expect him to "lead".  The pressure of "leading" is what gets him into trouble, trying to be that which he is not, instead of playing within  himself and moving the ball.  There are better shooters than Glen, even on the second unit, and he should not be chucking up as many long jumpers...get the ball to Delonte, Green, or even K in the paint...Davis should be concentrating on Defense with his big body.  His offense should come in the flow of the game, when he has a chance to attack the basket and pick up a foul.

I agree Thirstyboots, however Davis cannot get rebounds when he stays around the arc on both ends of the floor. He routinely has less rebounds than our point guard.
