Remember when the trade went down, all they wanted to talk about on ESPN was that the best player in the deal was Jeff Green, and who ever gets the best player wins the trade.

Well after seeing Jeff play since we hot him, I'm going to say that the best player in the deal was wait for it,
 Nate Robinson.

Just kidding, No KP is the best player in the Deal.

And I like Jeff, I do. I love his Jump hook from ten feet.

I love how he runs the floor, he can shoot the J, and catch alley oops. He's a solid, long, versatile, defender.

But he is no where as tough, competitive, mean, nasty as Perkins, and that's what wins tough games.

  It's about Size and presence.

For the finacial experts out there we were at 4 yr 22 Mil

 OKC 4 yr 36 mil

What was the highest number that we could have went to without paying crazy taxes.

And Ainge said in an article that there were three teams Going after Perk In Free Agency one being OKC.

Anyone got any clues or ideas about the other two teams.

The 4 years, $22-something million is the maximum the Celtics could have offered as an extension.  OKC could offer more because they had room under the cap.  Under the current CBA, the Celtics could have offered him up to the maximum as a free agent this summer due to Bird Rights, but they would have to bid against other teams.  Of course, the CBA expires this summer and if the owners got their dream of a hard cap, it's possible the Celtics wouldn't be able to offer much more than the extension they offered Perkins.  Ainge's willingness to trade Perkins may be a hint that the NBA owners are going to dig in even more than the NFL owners against their players in an attempt to wring concessions.

I suspect that Houston was one of the teams likely bidding for Perkins.  Oklahoma City, certainly, because Presti coveted Perkins and was willing to overpay by tossing in a draft pick.  Miami maybe, but they couldn't outbid the Celtics.

I think Green has been better, and in terms of numbers he'd be even better if he had starter minutes. But that's not what we need from him right now.

Must have been teams with cap room unless they were going to try and work out sign and trades.

Agree with with the OP.  Championship teams are usually tough and competitive with size and presence.  I miss the nastiness of Perk and TA.  I love Green's scoring ability from anywhere on the court, but the new guys are all softies.

At this point, I'm sure most of us have said our piece on the subject.

We know that Sam Presti thought Perk was the best player in the deal, since he gave up two starters and a draft pick for him.  Most NBA analysts seem to agree.  Here on the blog, things are more split.

I just hope that the team starts to play well and the JO and Shaq step up, so that Perk can gain Big Al status:  a player most of us still pull for and have fond memories of, but who doesn't necessarily hold us back in our quest to win.

It is funny as soon as Perk leaves us all of ESPN is talking about how good he is but when he was in Boston he was a complete afterthought. Now apparently he is the key player for any team to win a championship.

Jeff Green-complete opposite. Before he was 1 of the top players on OKC who took the lakers to 6 and who played as a great 3rd wheel. Now he is just some random guy on the Celtics.

Green is a decent quality player that can run the floor and can score the ball, plus he's a walking matchup issue.

Perk is a slow big dude coming off an ACL and can't score the ball, struggles to run the floor, BUT apparently according to bloggers here, has amazing force powers that create instant chemistry everywhere he goes. I'm unconvinced. I believe more in men getting the ball in the hoop, and stopping the other team getting the ball in the hoop.

JO after months of layoff dropped in out of nowhere and contributed a similar presence to perk on d, plus he can get the ball in the hoop. Let's get real here.

Very well said.

This, of course, is because all the analysts at ESPN are tools.  Same for the "nalysts" that TNT trotted out last night for the halftime comments (Rick Fox, who seemed to think he had something stuck in his teeth).  Yes, I had the sound off so I wouldn't have to listen.
Celtics fan for life.

You keep using this as evidence, when it's far from it. It ignores team needs, future plans, salary cap situation, current roster construction, players in the roster, player fit, etc., etc. It ignores other deals that Ainge might have had in place for Perk, hence driving the price up.

Using that same "evidence", looking it from a different angle you can as easily say that Sam Presti over-payed due to circumstances for Perk.
