Also, I guess I'll be the first one to go there:

Russell and Wilt.  Dominant on offense, dominant on defense, and the only stat he's obsessed with is championships.

And Bill gets lucky more often.

That's exactly what I was going to say.  Wilt's offensive skills and all-around talents, combined with Bill Russell's heart and desire.  Only problem is every other player in the league would have quit in frustration - they'd have been absolutely unstoppable.

Yeah, that's what I had earlier:

Rondo + Ray Allen.
Cs would have the best PG in the league and would be guaranteed to win #18!

It would certainly help the Cs this year, and would be fun to watch.  A great passing and defensive oriented PG who also happens to be one of the best shooters in the league.

Extra benefit: no more of the "trade Rondo" threads on CB
;)
Celtics fan for life.

The only problem is, you're being redundant on a couple of major areas.

You get the same great rebounding (and likely shot blocking and steals if they tracked it) from either player, while having terrible free throw shooting, and no outside shot.

Switch out Russell with a player like Bird, and then you get the passing, range, and free throw shooting you didn't have before and you don't really lose out on the heart.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

  • Thank you Eddie!
I'd combine JO's Achillies with Shaq's leg.  The Celtics would finally be completely healthy.

Depends on your definition of "getting lucky" I suppose.  ;)

You can't go wrong with Wilt and Bill, but I'd go straight for Bird and Magic for sentimental purposes (though a lot of their skills would be wasted on duplicity).
Yup

Larry Bird + Lebron James = I think that's scarier than Lebron Jordan

Lebron Bird

Pros.
Ridiculous levels of Clutch - Bird
Ridiculous Shooting ability - Bird
Ridiculous Strength & Athleticism - LBJ

Cons:
Not so impressive post game.
A whole new level of D.Baggery even fans of their own teams would hate him to an extent.

Basically Larry Bird with Lebrons Athleticism.

Larry was a decent post player.

Rodman and Durant. Great scorer, greater defender, still greater rebounder.

How about Dino Radja and Toni Kukoc - both came over around the same time and have contrasting games.

Bill Russell and Dennis Rodman

Defensive giant!  Between the blocks and the rebounds, the opponents would be embarassed every night.  Few first shots and fewer second shot attempts.

Ok I'm going to go one step further and build a whole team (without duplicating any of the players).

PG - Magic and Jerry West: using Magic's size and passing, with West's scoring, range, defense, and clutch.

SG - Jordan and Ray Allen:  basically all of Jordan's game, with Ray Allen's outside shot and free throw shooting.

SF - LeBron and Bill Russell: Built around LeBron's game, with Bill Russell's heart, class, team first mentality, defense, and rebounding.  A little weak on the outside shot and free throws for my superstar team though.

PF - Wilt and Dirk:  Built around Wilt's frame and overall game but adding in Dirk's shooting.

C - Shaq and Bird:  Built around Shaq's frame, prime athleticism and power, with Bird's outside shot, passing, and free throw shooting.

-edit, looks like my Magic/West point guard wouldn't qualify under Roy's rules because there's a 6" height difference.  Hmmm, need to think about this some more.

  • Rondo = Good
Of current players:

Kendrick Perkins and Al Jefferson

That's always been one I wished I could do.  Post defense and post offense with a decent mid-range game and good screen setting / blocking.

I'd also love to see Kevin Martin + Andre Iguodala.

Of players throughout NBA history:

Allen Iverson and Jason Kidd
