This was posted elsewhere, but for those underrating Perk:

Quote
"What people fail to realize is Perk was one of the parts of our team that made us really, really good. Made us tough," Garnett said. "We had built that chemistry and rapport with him. With Perk we had a style of play that worked for us. We're playing without the Big Fella and we're playing without JO. To say we're not playing with the same physical presence, you're right. We don't. Because Perk was a real physical presence. . . . Yes, losing Perk did cost us some physicality but we have enough physical presence on this team that I think we can endure."

Hopefully when (if?) we get Shaq and JO back to full speed, they'll replace part of Perk's contribution.  To argue that he wasn't a big part of the team -- even this year's team -- is just not true, though.  I don't care what the fans think:  KG saw him as a huge part of this team.

And who played when Perk didn't?  Shaq and Erden.

Who's not playing for us right now?  Shaq and Erden.

It's not so much that what we lost is so great as much as what we got back was so little.  We traded all of our depth

I think it's not so much with how much Perk played but everything else to do with the trades, the chemistry and emotional part of it obviously. As we know we are a team that is huge on bonding with each other off the court. Theres less and less time for this and the clock is ticking.

I think we miss who I never see mentioned Marquis' solid defense and the way he lived in the paint, it opened things up none of this spread the floor crap. I think we also miss the little things like the personality of Nate Robinson in the locker room and on the court well he was just durable not something you can say for much of our roster.

Funny, I was think of Nate last night.  I saw someone jump up off the bench when a big play happened.  Nate "the towel waver" was a big part of the whole "chemistry" thing.  Come to think of it Wafer was developing into a bit of a spark plug too.
Yup

We didn't trade Shaq and I think Krstic is an upgrade over Erden.  We have plenty of depth, the question is whether or not it is healthy depth (that applies to Perk too).  I sure hope that Shaq comes back soon but keep in mind that Perk has health questions also.

We traded a center who was injured for the next month and Nate. That's all our depth?

Along with Erden and Harangody (who was at least healthy).  We dumped those guys to go get an injured Troy Murphy when we KNEW the O'Neals were going to be out for quite a while yet.

The only healthy players we traded were Nate and Gody. Would we really be that much better off with those two and Erden?

Robinson (knee) will undergo arthroscopic surgery and is out for six weeks, Boston Globe writer Gary Washburn reports.
I agree with the sentiment of your comment but Nate hasn't played on minute I don't think and isn't due back anytime soon.

Haha. I was intentionally ignoring that to try and avoid the thread getting lost in a debate about whether he was injured before or after the trade.

The Celtics were 41-14 with a C that was an imposing defensive presence.

The Celtics are 9-7 without it.

The Celtic's fortunes in the playoffs are now attached to two oft injured big men that have not been on the court for a long time.

Now, the Celtics have to hope they get healthy and stay healthy through out the playoffs.  That's a lot of hoping.

Can someone tell me what the trade has added to this team this season?

Green is good player.  Starting SF in this league.  But the Celtics did not need a starting SF.

The 1st round draft pick in 2012 is a nice future asset, but it is not helping this team now.

Roll of the dice trade, I am just not a fan of the odds.

Pessimism is understandable -- it's very much in the realm of likely that Shaq and JO do not return at all -- or do not return to form.  Even more possible is that 1 of them won't.

But, why be a fan if there isn't hope?   The bright side, it can  be argued, is this:  A reasonably healthy Shaq and JO, along with Krstic, is a more versatile and talented center rotation than Perk-Sheed -- which we road to Game 7 last year.  Sheed averaged 6 and 3 in 17 MPG throughout the playoffs.   For that matter, the 2007-8 rotation of young Perk-PJ Brown was not much to speak of at all (yes, I know that the Big 3 were younger -- but Rondo was a baby).

I think JO and Shaq can provide what Perk provided, and Krstic can give us something offensively at the 5.  PJ only needed a handful of decent plays to be considered  a worthy contributor.  Nenad is certainly capable of a contribution.  SHaq and JO give us size in 5 minute stretches -- and I think will really help KG with the heavy lifting -- he needs strength and size beside him.

I refuse to let logic dictate to my emotions. I can't wait to see Shaq and JO suited up and game-ready!

In the short term the trade was meant to strength the bench rotation. When the C(Shaq)returns to the starting rotation we should see how it was meant to be.If Danny decides to keep J.Green in the future he probably will be the starting sf in time.

Why is it some horrid thing that Perk missed games, while he's playing right now, but it's ok that Shaq played some games and JON played almost none, and both aren't playing now?

Why the double standard.

If people want to say "We'll be fine when we get back Shaq and JON" I kinda want to say "Well what futuristic year will that be and how will it be achieved? Is it going to be like the Simpsons episode where Smithers gets an invitation to Lisa's wedding for two and tells Mr. Burns 'sir we'll get you right out of that cryogenic chamber as soon as they find a cure for.....15 stab wounds to the back.'"

In the mean time Perk is playing now. If someone wants to say we'll be ok as soon as we get back JON and Shaq then my answer is "Gee that's too bad, because we could have been ok right now"

Marty! Marty!   Quick. We got to go back to the Past to get Jermaine O'Neal's knee, Shaq's health, and the Celtic's toughness. Try not to bump into anything! We have to go to Texas to try to get Perkins as a 16 year old. It's our only chance! Set the year, quick! We have to get up to speed!
