What I have noticed though is that certain posters get TP's for absolutely nothing. I have been keepin track of one guys TPs for a few weeks and it's almost as if he gets a TP for every post he makes. Not that I care or anything like that, it just shows that there are  lot of people here that throw TPs around because they do have some strange desire to be part of the boys club :P

The answer to this is probably in the games, like the Pick a Player Over Game.  TPs flow very freely in those games and people that play them a lot often end up with inflated TP counts.  So it's not really a popularity thing so much as TPs being very convenient prizes for some of the side stuff that goes on here.

Such a good post... I've been trying to inform the blog of this disconnect for years... it doesn't work. Eventually you learn to ignore it. I wish there was a better fix but even if there was one, nobody would agree on it. We are a blog filled with many extremely opinionated people. In some cases it's horrible and in others it produces some of the best discussions you can have.

I promise I'm not being obtuse here. I swear, I'm not being facetious either. But

1) What exactly is the disconnect you're talking about? Please, define it for me in very concise and definite terms, because I sincerely do not get it.

2) What is the 'better fix'? What is the 'worse fix'? Should it be fixed, and is it even broke?

I want to lay out my views because I don't want people to get the wrong idea... so these are my beliefs and what not:

1. I love CelticsBlog.
2. CelticsBlog is not perfect but it is probably closer than any other blog. (The US is one of the greatest countries... that doesn't mean people don't complain about living in the US)
3. Something I discussed with Chris about a year ago... there is a difference between "Chris the mod" and "Chris the poster".
4. I believe the mods do a very good job here... the blog looks awesome, the topics are both informative and entertaining, the blog is fairly liberal... for the most part they let us talk about what we want... swearing is controlled very well... etc.
5. I don't like the tone of a few of the mods... this is just an opinion... these people are good "mods" they do their job well. I just don't like them as posters because they are too sarcastic and tend to gang up on other posters. This isn't a mod problem... it's a poster problem.
6. There are cliques... like it or not. It's natural for cliques to form among people you talk with every day. I don't see it is a problem but it can seem uninviting to new posters... I know I felt uncomfortable voicing my opinions and thoughts at first... clearly I don't anymore.

I will openly discuss any of these thoughts of mine.

1. The disconnect isn't a big deal. Number 6 refers to my opinion of the disconnect. Many people on this blog believe there are cliques. The only people who deny that are people who are "cliquey". Not a big deal... but it is something we disagree on and it causes a disconnect because we argue about it probably once every few months. The cliques aren't a big deal to me because I could probably be inserted into a clique myself... you make friends it's natural. I'm just saying I understand if new posters feel uncomfortable. Saying the cliques don't exist is just pointless and stupid in my opinion.

2. The fix is... that there is no fix, which I find unfortunate. Nobody is going to stop being friends with people they've been talking to for years and they shouldn't have to. They should realize however that when a new poster presents an issue the blog seems very uninviting when a ton of mods and high volume posters immediately gang up on said new poster. That is something that is "broken" on this blog. There is no "fix" and if there was a "fix" nobody would agree to it.

Yea you're probably right, i'm sure they do get some for thier posts too though, I know i've given both of em plenty of TPs :P but they deserved em

Silliest / most irrelevant / biggest 'mountain from a molehill' discussion of the past 48 hours: this thread, or the Pick A Player stuff?

Sorry if that's dismissive, but usually we save our 16 page threads for the truly impotant stuff, like the overratedness of Nenad Krstic.

The thread was derailed multiple times -- accompanied by little apparent sense of irony on the part of the derailers -- with "old boy's club" inside-joking and image macros.

No, I had a great appreciation of the irony. That's why I did it.

Huh? Why is my name being mentioned in this thread as well? What did I say or do to tick off the people now? I've had enough silly drama to last me a full season.

If you go back to the original thread I'm almost positive the OP gave some figures and said a long post... and immediately after, another "high volume" poster basically gave the same information. The high volume poster got responded to by the other high volume posters in the thread. The OP didn't get any responses and then made a statement. Fafnir then said he would make a new thread to discuss it. A while later I asked where this new thread was because I was interested in discussing that topic and here we are. I could be wrong though... I admittedly didn't read the original posts in the original thread because that topic didn't interest me.

If this isn't what happened and the OP just brought it up out of nowhere... much ado about nothing.

That's not what happened.

Here was your post which spawned this whole discussion:

Definitely less than Rondo got (5years x $55mil) but the market (aka idiot NBA owners) tends to overpay for young athletic scorers....see contracts of Deng, Josh Smith, Danny Granger.

The new collective bargaining agreement will be the determining factor.

Now, nobody quoted it, nobody referenced it. I can't speak for everyone...but here was my thinking:

1) Everyone knows that the new CBA will be the determining factor for all new contracts that aren't extensions. Its a valid point, but not really one I found interesting.

2) I agreed with your thoughts on NBA owners over paying athletic scorers, but I didn't want to look up the numbers on Josh Smith's extension to see where he sat.

So overall, a post I mostly agreed with, but not one I felt like commenting on, because I didn't really have anything to add to it.

However, I did find the notion of whether or not we were going to extend Green the qualifying offer to be an interesting one, so that is what I commented on. Danny Ainge has pretty firmly said he's against any contracts that run beyond the big 3's window, the only exceptions being Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo..so I found the idea of extending a qualifying offer and maybe getting into a game of chicken with another team's management group to be an interesting one.
