Since I don't have time to watch several games of 15 other point guards. How about I give you one on our team.
Delonte
Delonte is an excellent defender, but I don't think he's better than Rondo. Especially given what I've seen when he has to play starter minutes in the past.
I will say even if you only watch the C's you should see opposing PGs plenty, especially if you focus on Rondo. Defensively relative to his peers Rondo is excellent. Though lately he's been slumping with his entire game, hopefully he turns it on in the playoffs.
When have you seen West play starter minutes with Allen,Pierce,Garnett?
Watching opposing pgs for a few games here and there is alot different than watching every Celtics game for the last five years.
The biggest myth in Celtics Nation right now is that Rondo is a good defender. As time goes forward and the big three retire this will be debunked.
I think that "myth" exists much more outside of Celtics Nation than inside it. He finished first in multiple categories for best defender in the preseason nba GM polls 2 years in a row. 2nd team all-defense in 08-09, first team in 09-10, receiving more votes than any other guard. Finished 4th in DPOY voting, again garnering more votes than any other guard. Good look debunking that myth. Obviously you know more about the subject than, say, the coaches and general managers of the teams that play against him.
I guess playing with the best team defender in 20 years in Garnett has nothing to do with it either. I dont have to debunk anything. When he is not playing with the big three he will be exposed.
That's like how he was exposed as a rookie, before we had the big three. He was playing with Al and and an injured Perk and Kandi man and Wally and Gomes and Scal and Gerald Green. The defense was over 8 points a game better when Rondo was playing than when he was on the bench. Oops!
Just for fun, during that season, opponents shot an eFG of 46% against Rondo, getting 19 points, 7.5 assists and 4 turnovers per48 against him. They shot about 51% and got 21 points, 9 assists and 3 turnovers against your boy Delonte, who was also on the Celts at the time.
