If it was Perkins or Shaq, we would call it a 'hard foul in a chippy game'.

Personally I love seeing that stuff. Hard fouls, cheap shots, clotheslines, bring it on, man.
Yeah. No. Whoever wants to be a "tough guy" -- the MMA cage is open for them (that goes for hockey players as well, by the way). Though I wonder how much any of those guys will last there.

Skill games are supposed to be decided precisely by that -- skill. Not by who the biggest punk is.

That was a disgusting move by Bynum. He didn't try to block the ball, play it or anything he just decided to put his shoulder into Beasley. You can tell how the NBA has changed cause in the old days, or even a few years ago that would have turned into a fight.

Maybe I'm just about to say this cause he's a Laker but I think he should be suspended for the rest of the season, that was intent to injure.

Thank god there's still a few old school basketball plays in today's game. The suspension is warranted but I have a lot of respect for a big who plays like a big and patrols the paint like a cave troll. Def makes you think twice about driving that lane.

He may be a lakers but that's the old school type of ball I like to see and id like to see shaq lay a few of those on people before the playoffs start so teams know we mean business and were not gonna be an easy out. More big men in the league need to be ornery if you ask me. And this is comeing from a guy who always played guard. Gotta love those bigs tho.

Sorry I have to disagree. There is a difference between being tough and trying to end a players season or career

If I cheered when McHale did it to Rambis I'd be a hypocrite for criticizing Bynums foul. Plus I don't think it was completely dirty or done with the intention to end B-Easys career. It was just an old school
hard foul.

It wasn't a clothesline by any means. Let's also not forget that at one time in the NBA the famous clothesline we all see was just a normal personal foul. Or at least that was how that call ended according to McHale himself.

Good.

I wish it was longer.

I was watching Bease tonight, and he is still not the same.

Try that move against Shaq or JO, Drew baby. You'll get your 6 game opportunity here in a couple of months.

easily a flagrant 2, good suspension, but if KG did that to someone comin down the lane, then ESPN would be calling him the dirtiest player in the league and Wojo would once again be waxing poetic on how "classless and fake KG has become".

I feel like you can tell league round that the playoffs are coming.

I agree today seemed extra chippy like more guys were on edge.

I wouldn't and everyone knows my bias towards Shaq! Bynum didn't go for the ball at all! Shaq may give you a blow to make you think for a while but he doesn't just go full force into you with his elbow not even trying for the ball... if he did, you would have seen deaths, not a fall and bounce back! You can't really believe that was just a "hard foul"... he tried to take him out.

Oh absolutely. Me personally I grew up playing football and moved on to rugby in college. I've always been more of a fan of full contact basketball than finesse and fireworks. Bynum bodychecked a dude in the air..its a dirty play, and he deserves a suspension.

But I really doubt if a Celtic did it there would be be a huge outcry here. People still commend McHale's clothesline. KG was sticking his foot out on jumpers earlier in the season (and FTR, I think that's the dirtiest play in basketball).

So KG having his foot underneath someone once means he did it all the time? Since when? Geesh

I dunno....you put those words in my mouth, how am I supposed to defend them?

What I said was that KG was sticking his foot out under the shot earlier in the season..which he was. I havent seen him do it in at least a month though, and Id never noticed it prior.

Andrew Bum-knee-um deserves it. That Laker scum had done something similar to Gerald Wallace too...gave the man a collapsed lung and a fractured rib.

Oh yeah, I forgot that Wallace got badly injured. I think that the McHale-Rambis hit and the Bynum-Beasley hit were two different ones. For one it was during two completely different times in the NBA and not to mention the size of the players. Most of the tall players back then were more KG type build and not a Dwight Howard/Bynum type build and that's why Shaq had such a big impact on the NBA.

I would think that if someone on the Celtics did that to someone this season I know I wouldn't be defending that player and I'll go as far as to say that some on here wouldn't either.

The Rambis clothesline was done during the playoffs, when it's called much looser with regards to fouls. Secondly, Rambis and McHale were both forwards. Bynum is a center and Beasley is a guard (I know they have him playing the 3, but that cat is no SF). The size discrepancy there is much more substantial than the difference between McHale and Rambis. Bynum could've ended Beasley's career, and it's a really crappy foul besides. Why would he hyped enough to foul that hard in a March regular season game anyway?

It really doesn't have that effect at all if the guy is given a flagrant and kicked from the game and suspended. It does however show how stupid Bynum is to give a hard bump to a guy in the air. Any number of neck or back injuries can result from a play like that if you change a guys flight path.
