If it was Perkins or Shaq, we would call it a 'hard foul in a chippy game'.

Personally I love seeing that stuff. Hard fouls, cheap shots, clotheslines, bring it on, man.

I wouldn't and everyone knows my bias towards Shaq! Bynum didn't go for the ball at all! Shaq may give you a blow to make you think for a while but he doesn't just go full force into you with his elbow not even trying for the ball... if he did, you would have seen deaths, not a fall and bounce back! You can't really believe that was just a "hard foul"... he tried to take him out.

Oh absolutely. Me personally I grew up playing football and moved on to rugby in college. I've always been more of a fan of full contact basketball than finesse and fireworks. Bynum bodychecked a dude in the air..its a dirty play, and he deserves a suspension.

But I really doubt if a Celtic did it there would be be a huge outcry here. People still commend McHale's clothesline. KG was sticking his foot out on jumpers earlier in the season (and FTR, I think that's the dirtiest play in basketball).

So KG having his foot underneath someone once means he did it all the time? Since when? Geesh

I dunno....you put those words in my mouth, how am I supposed to defend them?

What I said was that KG was sticking his foot out under the shot earlier in the season..which he was. I havent seen him do it in at least a month though, and Id never noticed it prior.

Sorry IP what you said was jumpers meaning he was doing it multiple times.

Typical Laker fans to be giving him a standing "O" too.  Just a plain dirty play.

Lakers are just sneaky dirty.

I'll never forget that body tackle Lamar O'Dumb did on Ray Allen back in 07-08. He got upset from Boston taking LA out back to the shed to the tune of 110-91 and I guess he got frustrated.

Drew is apparently following suit. Tough guy.

Can't wait until June. Can't wait.

Ugh... GreenFaith I can't wait till June either, but you really just reminded me of Bart Scott (puke) with that post.

I'm proud of him," Kobe Bryant said of Bynum. "He earned his stripes." And this is the one who threw a roundhouse at Rondo (and fortunately missed) in the 7th game of the NBA Finals, and got away with it.

...

The Rambis clothesline was done during the playoffs, when it's called much looser with regards to fouls. Secondly, Rambis and McHale were both forwards. Bynum is a center and Beasley is a guard (I know they have him playing the 3, but that cat is no SF). The size discrepancy there is much more substantial than the difference between McHale and Rambis. Bynum could've ended Beasley's career, and it's a really crappy foul besides. Why would he hyped enough to foul that hard in a March regular season game anyway?

Also, after the Rambis clothesline, Bird immediately went over to help Rambis up. In this incident, there was none of that on the part of any Laker.

Also, in the first Celtics/Bulls game this season, on one Bull possession, Shaq fouled Rose rather hard (but not like Bynum did) as he was driving to the basket. Immediately, Rondo and Garnett went over to help him up. The Lakers don't do that.

My point was the fact that I'd be a hypocrite to pan that play even though Bynum is a Laker because I'll certainly be cheering when Shaq or JO touch some people up in this years playoffs. And I'm sure a lot of the same posters who are freaking out will come to the defense of any Celtic who does it. Not all mind you but certainly a majority. It's natural.

My personal opinion was that it was an old school hard foul and I've seen a lot worse. I actually am a person who enjoyed the hand checking rules where players couldn't just go coast to coast unincumbered. And as much as I hated the Pistons I respected them for their "Jordan Rules" and the way they handled him. A lot of our Celtic defense is based in those same Chuck Daly principles where you guard the ball not the man so essentially everyone is your man and there's no easy layups or freebies.

I understand your desire to be consistent. I was just trying to make an additional point.

Also, Garnett received many criticisms in this forum after the Phoenix game, where he ended up getting ejected just for arguing with the officials. And he did nothing like what Bynum did. I've personally never seen a Celtic do the equivalent of what Bynum did in "Big 3" era.

My Bad, Man...I suppose that still hurts around these parts.

But hey! At least the Pats will more than likely make the postseason - again.

My Redskins, lol....all I can do is pray.

Yeah. No. Whoever wants to be a "tough guy" -- the MMA cage is open for them (that goes for hockey players as well, by the way). Though I wonder how much any of those guys will last there.

Skill games are supposed to be decided precisely by that -- skill. Not by who the biggest punk is.

Love this point by Kozlodove...I so agree and couldn't have said it better. TP

To be completely honest with you I haven't seen anything as blatant as that Bynum foul your right. But I certainly have seen some very hard fouls. Shaq came into camp saying he had no problem "touching people up" lol. And I'm sure we will see that from he and JO in the playoffs.

I'll also say this.. I love KG and what he's done for our team but I'm sorry I couldn't take his side on that move when he put his foot underneath Frye. That's bush league. And to me it's a lot worse than what Bynum did. As a person who's played basketball on different levels in my day I'd much rather take the hit Beasley did then the landing Frye got.

I honestly do think that's a dirtier play. To me it's way more likely to cause an injury cause let's face it. People sprain/break their ankles far more frequently landing on other peoples foot than just getting knocked over in the air. It does make me think a bit about Andrew Boguts injury. But thats pretty rare. And he did that on his own. But my point is that could have been the result from a Bynum type foul. But to me it's far more likely to injure yourself when someone puts their foot underneath yours when your landing.
