We were -12 with Rondo in the game. He wasn't the difference maker.

first post on the forums and while delonte was the sparkplug last night.. simply using a +/- stat for rondo isnt truly fair imo for the pure fact if his guys arent hitting shots theres a good chance hes goin to be a -

I'm not blaming Rondo solely for us being -12.  However, to claim that a guy who was -12 was the "reason" we won, while ignoring that his replacement was +16, just defies logic to me.

Did you know early in his NBA career Kevin Durant was always in the negative?

Whether it's true in this case or not, I don't think it really defies logic. A person can be a -12 and be the reason it wasn't a -24 when he's in the game. A guy could be +16 because other players step up when they're on the court. Switch Ray's play in the first half and the second half, and play Davis more in the first half and Krstic more in the second and Rondo and West's +/- numbers would reverse.

I suppose in some hypothetical fantasy world that might be the case, but it certainly wasn't last night.  There are a half dozen Celtics who deserve more credit for last nights win than Rondo.

He was better than Pierce and Krstic last night, but that's about the most praise I can give him.

It's not that hypothetical. Chicago has a higher +/- per minute with CJ Watson at pg that Rose, same for OKC with Green or Sefolosha playing sf instead of Durant. I didn't say that Rondo was the reason that the Celts won, but I'd guess if you're saying that 6 players were better than Rondo you're counting guys that were poor for stretches and had a few good plays at key stretches.

from espn article about Rondo:

One game isn't enough for the point guard to declare himself whole again. The slump has been taxing. He hasn't felt himself for a while.

"It's a mix and match of things," Rondo said slowly. "I haven't been playing well. Aches and pains. And we had the trade with Perk [Kendrick Perkins].

"He's a guy I spent a lot of time with. I'm not saying that's why I'm playing bad. You just appreciate somebody more when they're gone.

"We were best friends. We're talking more now than we did when he was here. It's been tough. I know other guys have been through it, but I haven't.

"We went through everything together, right from the beginning. I missed the USA basketball camp so I could be at his wedding.

"When we were on the road, there was never any question we'd be hanging out together. It was 'What are we going to do tonight?' or 'Let's go here and there.' So now it's a little different.

no, the team hasn't been affected by the Perk trade at all - water off a duck's back.

This is the beauty of the "pro" rondo arguments. When PP, KG and Ray hit their shots and rondo has gaudy assist totals it is b/c he knows how to make all the right passes - all hail rondo, the straw that stirs the drink.

Yet when people are missing, it isnt on him.

Kid is a great passer but you can't have it both ways

Don't lie. Rondo hit the buzzer beater at halftime to keep us down by 11. That is far from a blowout. Remember you quit watching and called it a loss.

How does a buzzer beater at halftime to only put us down by 11 give that ANY advantage...

Rondo is still sucking out there and by the looks of it, I'd rather have Delonte be our starting PG if Rondo keeps playing like a chump. He says he's not injured so either Rondo is exhausted and needs more rest time (which I hope we can provide him that during the home games vs ****ty teams) or is playing like a scrub because he's being mentally weak.

Rondo did not suck out there tonight. He held Chris Paul to zero FGs in the game while hitting clutch jumpers.

I cant tell if your trolling.

Rondo didnt hold CP3 to 0-9.

CP3 held CP3 to 0-9.

Bad nights happen, Rondo hasnt been able to hit a wide open jumper for 2 weeks until tonight.

You should give yourself more credit for this. You predict that an opposing pg will destroy Rondo and they stink on ice. Don't waste this power, save it for the playoffs. Experiment a little with other positions, though. "LeBron will crush Paul", Wade will destroy Ray" and "Pau will blow up on KG" predictions *could* be the secret to banner 18.

The other great rondo supporter contradiction.

Paul had 15 dimes, 7 boards and was an even for the game. The number of times I have come on this board after a celtics game and had people saying rondo played great because of his assist and rebound numbers and that scoring doesnt matter has been many.

Paul wasnt that bad last night he just missed about 4 floaters that he usually doesnt.

If rondo had his stat line you would be first in line to defend his performance

Haha, ok. Jennings stunk, CP had a fairly average game, compared to his usual 17/4/10. He still might have some "reverse jinx mojo", you never know.

True - I just happen to think Jennings always stinks! ha.

Not so sure about Ray. Did nothing on offense in the first half while making Bellini look like a star on the other end, then woke up in the 3rd quarter. Might have been "more responsible for the win", but probably didn't play a better overall game.

Ehhh, I don't know.

Ray:  20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, +12
Rondo:  9 points, 1 rebound, 5 assists, 1 steal, -12

True, he might have let a white guy drop 14 in the first quarter (the same as our whole team) but then he had a clutch strip on him in the 4th that pretty much sealed the game.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

... and several big baskets (especially in the third quarter) to get us back into the game.
