Great thing is you don't have to bench Pierce to play him. I prefer him at the 3; but he can play the 4. All of our players except Shaq, Rondo and Kristic can play multiple positions.

You can also play PP at the 2 and Green at the 3.

I've seen people say this but when they play together isn't Green the 2 and Pierce the 3?  Green is bigger but he's also faster and there aren't a lot SFs that Paul can't handle.

There's not much difference between the two situations. Green's faster but PP is a better outside shot.

Yeah, it all depends on matchups.  In general, wings are interchangeable, and you can switch them up for individual matchups.

Kinda.

In general wings have one guy who is quicker and faster and one guy who is stronger and bigger..but they both have similar skill sets.

If we ever tried to do a backcourt of Pierce/Green (which I think is a terrible idea), it would down to whether or not Pierce could defensively check the 2 guard, and if Doc was comfortable letting that happen. Recently we've seen Pierce check the 2 guard when they get it at the top of the key in some games, but he's been let down when the guy gets past him and into the interior. As long as we can't count on the O'Neals and don't have Perk to fill the middle...the defensive ability of our perimeter guys becomes that much more important while Krstic is learning the ropes.

I think Green has been okay and good for a bench player, but I guess I am not as blown away as others are by his performance so far. He has shooting 52 percent from the field and averaging 11.5 points per game in 23 minutes, which is good. On the other hand, he is averaging slightly over 2 rebounds per game. has .3 assists per game and his defense is okay, but nothing to go crazy about. So, while the scoring has been good, I have not been overly excited about everything else. Not sure what I am missing.

Im pretty sure the celtics poor play as a team is effecting how the other guys are playing.

Guys like West and Baby will play hard no matter what to "get theirs"

Green seems like hes still trying to feed off of the starters, and will play well if the starters play well.

We cant ask him to come in when hes just sat and watch the starters put up a craptastic effort and are down by 17 when Green comes in, that has to effect his psyche somewhat.

Like Doc said earlier, "the new guys and the bench need to come in and not think." When they come into the game and were losing, they start thinking, and in turn play worse.

Thats a quote from Doc and I agree with him. Green should be able to come in and just play off talent and instinct and not have to think about making a fool of himself.

It's part of the transition, and it'll come soon.

They need to do a better job of finding him in transition, he's ALWAYS ahead of his man. Once Rondo/West figure out how to get it to him... he's going to be a weapon.

Love Green.  But he needs to rebound better.  He's athletic enough.  Not sure why he doesn't rebound.

While Green is playing well for Boston, he has quickly gone from being underrated to overrated on this board.

He has the skills to be a starter on most teams.  He has the skills to be the 6th man on this team.

But because of need and chemistry, he is more like the 8th guy on this team right now (after Baby and West).

Of course, most teams would love to have that type of talent as the 8th man.  So, this is all good for the Celtics (once they get back a starting C, the chemistry of this team is established and Rondo gets a little more healthy)

green, we need to remember, is younger than baby.
baby has consistently improved the weaknesses in his game.
if green can do the same he will reach the highest expectations this board dreamed up for him.
in other words...
with the tools he has his ceiling is as high as his work ethic.

i think green is filling the exact need we need: somebody to come off the bench that could play a swingman position or power forward in certain situations. the one thing our bench has lacked all year was an explosive/dynamic scorer. green is filling that role nicely. his numbers say he doesnt rebound well, but hes also the first guy running on the break, and my guess is, doc is telling him to do that. his assist numbers are also pretty weak, but ive noticed its because when he gets the ball, hes usually in a nice position to make a move to shoot which is fine.

bottom line: hes done exactly what we needed from a wing off the bench in his first 10 or so games here. he other areas will improve with time.

also, he may be our best post up scorer. (when matched against 3's and smaller 4's.)
