I personally don't find this thread offensive.  I mean, it's just a simple question posed to get various responses.  To each their own, I guess, if it really bothers some people that much.

It was nearly impossible to think of him in green without this pic. He has undeniable talent that would win us games, and if the Hornets sent him to us instead of LA, he may have never had the drama that has turned many against him. If he never played for the Lakers, I'm sure I would find myself rooting for him as much as I do for all the other celtics.
Which one of you is playing for second place?

There's no reason why it should bother people. It's just a hypothetical question and it DOES garner some interesting responses. Good thread.

Would the Lakers like Paul Pierce if HE were a Laker?

I think that I would have no choice but to like Kobe as a Celtic in this hypothetical alternate universe you speak of.  ;)

The truth (no pun intended) is that we wouldn't want Paul Pierce, especially due to the history between the two teams...But if he produced and helped the Lakers win games, I would. I never liked Matt Barnes - I always thought he was a punk when he was with other teams, but once he started to play games with us, I could appreciate him more.

Same goes for the rest of you. You would hate Kobe at first, but would accept him when he helped your team win.

this is a great question and i typically find myself upon this same question whenever an argument comes up between me and my Laker friends. I must say though, he would have been a much better person if he ended up in Boston. Think about it, the whole rape thing happened in L.A. If he was sporting green in Bean Town, that (most likely) wouldn't have happened. Now, to answer whether or not I would like his game if he was in Boston, no. I'm not a fan of the shoot first, pass later style of play. I like watching Boston for a reason, and that's because ever since the beginning (with Bob Cousy) they've been a passing style team. They set up the offense and have typically three, four, maybe even five players as offensive weapons. With Kobe on the Celtics, they would have to either change their way of play to match Kobe's desirable offense (happy Kobe), or force Kobe to play under the Celtics way of play which is to run plays and pass the ball (mad/sad Kobe).
p.s. The Celtics have never had a player who led the league in points for a reason.

The whole premise of this thread is offensive and Kobe is from my home town. No, I was born in Philly and am a huge Dr. J and Mo Cheeks fan; but never a Kobe fan.
this improves the thread immediately
forget kobe and his attitude
who is classier julius erving or maurice cheeks?
Now we had a great rivalry for a couple decades with the 76ers.  I'd welcome either of those guys in a second.

That was just thier way of letting the celtics know they weren't happy with them. I thought it was brilliant.

I recoil a little when people say Kobe is a *great* teammate. At his skill level he could be so much more of a teammate than he's been in his career. He chooses to be an adequate teammate and is cosmically blessed with dominant offense and willpower. The Celtics are historically great teammates and the current roster is a shining example and that's why I follow them. I would take Magic Johnson from the beginning or after being a Laker before I'd ever consider Kobe. That's the basketball I prefer.

I wonder how Kobe and KG would have co-existed if Garnett ended up in LaLa Land back in the summer of 2007?

Just like in general chemistry, sometimes certain mixures can cause explosions or harmful gaseous vapors (ie mixing bleach and ammonia), the same can be said in life, too...minus the physical explosions, of course.

Would KG have rubbed off on Kobe how he has done so in Boston?  Would it simply just not work?  Why or why not?

no. I don't even want to think about Kobe Cryant tainting a Celtics jersey. Then him making those smug faces he makes? Lord have mercy, I would pray for the injury bug to strike him.
