Which Rondo you asking about?  The one that plays hard for 40 minutes against some of the better guards or the one that takes halves off against guards he doesn't feel are in his league or if he's pouting for some reason?

Rondo is in the 2nd tier behind CP3, Rose, and D-Will.

I disagree with all the "it depends on what you're looking for since Rondo has different skill sets" arguements.  Guys like Nash, CP3, Deron, are all great passers (if you disagree you probaby haven't watched many of their games). They just shoot more than Rondo since they are more capble at creating their own offense.

Also on D, Rondo mainly gets his steals from gambling; he's not exacty a lock down in your face type defender.  CP3 gets just as many steals.  You can't really say Rondo gets a lot more assists and steals than any other PG (my point being he doesn't have unique attributes over any other PG's such that he should be "viewed" differently); but you can say other PG's are more effective at scoring and shooting.

We will have to agree to disagree then. I think Nash and Rondo are tier 1 when it comes to passing, creating for others, and setting tempo. Rondo is the key reason the C's offensive efficiency is the best in the league. I agree that others are better at shooting (one skill set in a broad array of skills), although I would argue they don't shoot as efficiently. BTW, nobody ever said  CP3 and D. Williams were not good at passing. They are fantastic at it, just not quite the same as Rondo.

I also don't follow your logic with regard to what skills you think can compared and what can't. The numbers clearly show Rondo is the assists leader and essentially tied with CP3 in steals per game. Yes, Rondo gambles to get steals, but so does CP3. In fact, you kind of have to gamble to get gaudy steal numbers. So what does that have to do with anything?
“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

We're talking about the 2010-2011 version, trying to ignore some of his faults from the first couple of years in his career that he no longer possesses.

ok, what other PG's would you swap for Rondo on the Celtics next summer?

I think Rondo doesn't need to do things like scoring 20, but he's capable of doing it. Of course, he must improve his shooting. I expected Rondo improving way more at the FT line. His jumpshooting is slightly better, but as Celtics fans we want him to improve more. But the Celtics play as a team, so they need a floor general who doesn't look for his points first.

Chris Paul can make his teammates better, Nash has done it for his career. Deron is a great player, and NJ will improve with him. But the rest... maybe. You could argue Westbrook makes his teammates better, I hope we can see it with Perk soon. Rose? he'a a one-on-one machine, can score on anyone, but it's still something to see, and I bet Joakim Noah playing on the C's will look a lot better than in Chicago.

Rondo is getting a lot of criticism, and I agree he's not playing like we know and expect him to play. But outside Chris Paul, I wouldn't swap Rondo for any PG.

Guys I would put above him:

Deron
CP3
Rose

Guys I would put on his level:

Nash (better offense, worse defense)
Westbrook
Wall

Wall and Westbrook are not on Rondo's level, they could be, and maybe they could be better, but right now Rondo is a better PG.

Rose is very good, a great player, but he's not a better PG. Rose is a better scorer, stronger player, but he doesn't defend or create for others like Rondo. And I know I'm biased, because I love Rondo's game and dislike the way Rose plays, but they're on a similar level.

I agree with you that Wall is not on Rondo's level yet, but he certainly has shown flashes that he could get there. After watching a lot of Thunder games this year on league pass, I'd have to say that in my opinion, I think Westbrook is. He continues to amaze me almost every night. He can take over a game in a way in which Rondo can't.

I also think Rose is still underrated by many. The guy is more than just a scorer, and anyone arguing that he is a poor defender hasn't been watching Chicago this year. Rose plays very good defense on the opposing point guards. He doesn't get as many steals as Rondo, and I'm not saying he's a better overall defender than Rondo, but he does a better job of keeping his man from penetrating the lane.  Rose has even added a consistent 3 point shot to his repertoire. I think he wins MVP this year, and he deserves it.

Yes, Wall could be a top-3 or top-5 PG and has potential to be the best, but not yet. Westbrook can take over games in ways Rondo can't, but you can say the same thing about Rondo. Rondo can take over a game, but he usually sets his team to win the game. Westbrook and Wall are not there yet.

Rose isn't underrated in any way, he's getting MVP attention, and if he gets it you might be right, it could be well deserved. But I couldn't care less about individual awards, I want #18. Individual rankings are useful for sponsors, ratings, business. As a fan, the only rankings that matter are standings and being able to win 16 games in the postseason.

And for the winning purpose, I'd take Rondo over Rose. In my opinion they are on similar level, since Rose has improved and Rondo isn't showing significant progress.  But when the playoffs start, we'll see a more rested (and healthy) Rondo guiding the team to wins, hopefully 16 wins.

I would definitely take Rose over Rondo. For all the talk about 'making teammates better', there have been a lot of championship teams with point guards who were not the main facilitators for their teams. How many championships has Phil Jackson won with below average PGs?

Westbrook's something of an inefficient volume shooter and not a great defender.

Westbrook is no less efficient than Derrick Rose, and he's on a similar level defensively (even gets more steals per game).

Westbrook is amazing and not only stat wise, so i concur

I really do not want to argue but I have watched every game this year and without a doubt, Rajon Rondo does not play hard very much.  I've rooted for him and thought he would be really good years ago, long before he ever achieved any prominence.  BUT, he continually acts lazy, indifferent, half asleep and moody.  I am not sure if there's a pattern but his act does seem to change depending on who is is playing against (the other team's PG)....sometimes.  Oh yeah, throw CARELESS in there as well.  1/2 his turnovers are because he's careless.

I'd say as far as a POINT GUARD goes, Rondo is either 2 or 3.  Behind Chris Paul, and on par with Williams.

As far as ALL AROUND PLAYER goes, for someone who plays at the PG position, I'd put him in the top 10, but his inability to score really hurts him when comparing to other PG's.

When you look at it from a strictly floor general stand point, Rondo should be counted among the elite.

CP3
Derron
Rose
probably Westbrook
Nash for the moment
Rondo
Wall nipping at his nose
Stephen Curry also nipping at his nose

Nash won't be after next year

From the hypocrisy department of hypocrisy I don't want to hear about Tony Parker because he has the rings.  Call me a hypocrite all day and it's fine by me. It's ok. I deserve that.

He's probably better than Earl Boykins, but worse than Holiday.

Rajon Rondo is the Kendrick Perkins of point guards.

Overrated, offensive liability, inconsistent.

The guy has no offensive game to speak of, cant hit a wide open jump shot, makes boneheaded plays down the stretch, and is just not that good.

Top 10, without the Big 3, Top 15.

This is pretty much accurate, but everyone will call you out for "trolling."
