Who else thinks we made out like bandits in the Perkins trade? I know I do.

I know this has been brought up so many times but as the dust settles more and more i've realised that we really got a great deal out of the Perkins trade.
Losing a beloved 8 year player who plays and works as hard as Perkins is never going to be taken easily.
BUT...
It's obvious that this would've been a questionable trade if perkins was 100% healthy and had no leg/knee issues.
But because of the questions and his lack of agility and vertical/lateral movement- he was a shadow of his former self and wasn't going to get to his former self for at least another 9 months (like all severe knee injuries)... and this was severely going to effect our chances at going deep for Banner 18- particularly if another key piece went down.
This trade has given us youth and scoring and pieces for the future while BOLSTERING our current roster and improving our chances of winning banner 18 by a mile.
Just think what we are going to be like with Shaq starting, krstic coming off the bench with delonte, green, baby etc..
That 4 man combo could start on a lower tier NBA team.
I'm still waiting for them to adjust to our defensive scheme but that's always going to take 10-15 games to feel comfortable- particularly when you have 5 guys out there who've never played together before like we have had the past 2 games.

As much as I love Perk- this trade was phenomenal and has given our team the injection of fresh legs that we needed- not only for finishing the regular season strongly and making a deep playoff run, but for also resting our starters so when we come out inf the EC semi finals/finals vs the bulls or heat, we will have a fully loaded tank.
If you think this trade was bad, compare our best starting 5 to any other teams best starting five- and the matchups.
Then compare our best 5 off the bench to any other teams best 5 off the bench...
we win both categories.

We won the trade on paper.  In actuality, we'll see how it affects our defense, rebounding, and cohesion/chemistry.  So far, the results in those areas are decidedly mixed.

that's true, but I think the bigger picture includes shaq and big baby and JO adding to our bigs input.
I don't think our bigs have played too badly lately- both garnett and krstic have been okay- they've just really had no help off the bench because there is simply no one to help.
Even bringing in big baby for the last 2 games we've lost (in hindsight) gives us the 6-7 points+ defense+ rebounding off the bench we needed to win those games.

It's just awfully hard to try to evaluate this for a good 'nother month.  If both are still with the team next year, after a training camp, then this is a clear win.  As for this year, depends on whether the team as a whole can gel in time for the playoffs.  That was the big gamble, but talent-wise, I think we're clearly better.

If after another month, the defense is still shaky, then it'll probably not seem like such a good gamble for this year.

can you imagine what our team on the court would look like if we didn't make this trade?

Our big men rotation would be KG, Semih ( with two shoulders that need surgery) and Harongody

and our backup at the wing positions would have been? sasha? for 20 mins a game

give it time, Shaq is going to bring a big energy to the team like he did at the beginning of the year. BBD is a 6th man of the year candidate of course we are going to struggle someon defense without those 2 big boys.

well the only thing we have to go by is paper- they've only played 7 games together missing shaq, JO, delonte and big baby who is part of their bench rotation.
I don't think you can analyse their on court play accordingly yet. As rondohono says, give it a bit more time.
It's the starters who are struggling in the last 2 games, not the new players or bench.

i guess that's why Perk was averaging a career high 8 rebounds per game since he came back - being a shell of his former self and all.

Exactly. Career high rebounding cancels out all the other negatives. I mean, it's not like Perk had absolutely no lift, or like he was averaging about half as many blocks, or like he was routinely getting stuffed at the rim...oh wait...

Erden and Luke to make space for Murphy was a big mistake. even is neither has a real future with the C's, they could have really helped especially Erden. He kept us in alot of games against atheletic teams because he was able to cover a lot of ground under the basket. He may have been out of position; but he mad up for it with his range and his ability to bother shots around the rim.

So far it is looking like one clunker--one Mikki Moore, if you will--out of Danny's five new guys.  80% is pretty good for this type of thing, I'd say.  That gives us Murphy, Bradley and one injured guy in street clothes come playoffs.  The rest will likely  help the  team.
