you probably lost half the blog community referencing Bias. i was in HS when he passed and i remember the what-ifs that would follow his death for a few years. credit to the op for reviving the memory and spirit of what was sure to be a celt great!

Well check these out then young bucks.

He died of a Coacaine overdose before he played one game for the aging Celtics.

Jeff Green is about 25 percent of the player that Len Bias was. Lern Bias was a game changer. Jeff Green backs up Paul Pierce.

again... from the thread comparing Jeff Green to Posey on Feb 25th:

much better player than Posey, imo.   I give it a month until some homer on this forum comments he's "Len Bias reincarnated".

So predictable.

Like the spin the OP took, though. :)

What a perfect time to get a young stud that could hang with MJ. Wow. And From Red's mouth sian he could back up the two three and the four, sounds like somebody else we got now. 8)

come on guys. let's not go crazy after one good game. jeff green is a good, young, versatile, player with lots of potential. but he isnt len bias for the sole fact that we dont know what len bias could have been. based off of what i've seen/read, len bias was the best talent to come out of ncaa bball since michael jordan. that's high praise. now, whether or not that would translate into an elite career, we'll never know. but len bias could have been a very very special player for the c's.

this thread and the reggie lewis one has depressed me today. reminded me of how the c's basically got screwed (bad karma/luck/laker voodoo) out of potential continued greatness for the 90's..... :(

personally, even though this may be a fun topic, i don't like it.

i saw len bias play, i saw him get drafted and the excitement surrounding it, then i watched the headlines of when he died.

jeff green will be a great player, but lets not say he's len bias re-incarnated out of respect.

I have to agree with this.  Bias was a very special player and I just don't see Green being anywhere near the player Bias was.  It was an awful day when I saw the report of Bias's death.    Nothing like opening old wounds.

I fully believe Danny's quietly trying to extend the life of the big 3 past what it should be. We have a legit shot at back to back titles with the help we now have off the bench

I think he's doing a good job of luring Doc back, which isn't inconsequential.

Yea but it wasn't just age. With the medical practices of the 80s (exercise methods, treatment methods, etc) and the wear and tear of the league (far more physical) 30 then is much older than 30 now. However, I agree with your point that with a young MJ, the Celtics could have several more titles...

Become Legendary.

I agree 100% with the guy who said Len Bias' Celtics would have, assuming Red put a decent team around him, which is not a long shot...definately kept Jordan's Bulls in check and the Celtics likely would have raised a few more banners.

I also agree with the guy who said he was a game changer, because he was.

I always felt there were three next generation, and game changing athletes that entered into the league at two positions in succession.

1. Michael Jordan at the off guard. I still haven't seen his equal at the off guard spot yet and I'm not sure I will. And no, Kobe Bryant, IMHO, does not even scare Michael Jordan.

2. David Robinson and Shaquille O'Neal at center.

3. The missing athlete at the SF / PF was Len Bias. He was basically Michael Jordan at 6'8" or 6'9". He the same kind of jaw dropping athleticism but he also possessed something that only the very greatest possess - an unbelievable drive to win - I'm talking Jordan, Bird, Magic, KG type instensity.

Last thing that separated - he had a clean, but very nasty mean streak with how he played.

Len to me, was Michael Jordan at 6'9". He was a sick athlete.
