Doesn't bringing back this thread simply prove that everyone who called Danny a liar a month and a half ago was wrong?  Jermaine O'Neal has returned and looks the best he has in two years and Shaq did return and looked brilliant until he got another unrelated injury.

JO, yes. Shaq, no way. Dr. McKeon said his current injury is related to both the calf and achilles. You really think it's completely unrelated?

First of all, I hadn't heard they were related.  I've read McKeon's comments about blood supply there, but nothing on that they are related.

Maybe they are, maybe they aren't.  However, the liar comment is still absolutely proven false: Shaq did return before the end of the year looking quite spry.  Unless Danny made some sort of guarantee that he'd never hurt his leg again, I don't see how my original post is at all inaccurate.

Also, I'm not here to defend the trade or anything of that sort.  If you want to hate the trade, hate the trade.  But it doesn't mean that every word out of Danny Ainge's mouth is a lie.

I guess I just don't consider 5 minutes of healthy play, followed by reinjury to the same body part, as a ringing endorsement of Shaq's healthy return.

Technically it wasn't the same body part. Whether he strained his calf because of his tender Achilles, that's up for debate.

But the truth is he came back and was unlucky, or he just came back a little to soon and got setback. Either way, Ainge was correct, the medical staff is the only one who could be blamed.

Sort of. I said either he lies about injuries or the team has med staff issues. I'm starting to think they have med staff issues.

But Jermaine O'Neal did come back and so did Shaq.

I think you can fault Danny Ainge for thinking that Shaq could recover and then avoid injury again.  But that's Ainge showing lack of foresight, not lying.

Again, I'm not posting in this thread to defend the trade.  That's open to debate.  I'm not even here to tell you that I think Ainge is a brilliant GM, I've disagreed with some of his decisions over the years.  However, I do think that ever since the whole KG incident in 2009, everyone wants to assume that Ainge is lying every time he opens his mouth.  And that's simply not the case this time.
