Now that Troy has committed to us, and Perkins quickly signed an extension that would have been way to much to afford, Danny has been completely vindicated for making the trade. It took guts to do what he did. Kudos to Ainge for making this happen.

way too much? that's a completely reasonable deal. you realize we're paying 6 mil to JO, right?

if anything Perk signing an extension and Murphy signing for the rest of the season makes the trade seem completely unnecessary...

JO comes off the books next year, when KG and Ray do. Perk's deal would have used up quite a bit of any cap space that would be available.

If we win a Title or even make it to the Finals this season and next, then the cap situation matters. If we don't, honestly, we wasted two shots at a Title IMO.

Because we were guaranteed titles this year and next? The same way we were guaranteed the title last year?

Oh, I forgot, we gave up all hope of winning a title last year when Danny didn't sign Leon Powe, who was going to be playing at a pre-injury level before the playoffs began.

And if the Celtics lose in the finals bc the Lakers, Mavs, OKC or Spurs out rebound us?  or Gasol kills the Celts again on the boards in the finals?

Will he still be vindicated?

See, this kind of argument can go both ways bc is PURE SPECULATION.

Ill wait until a month has gone by, see where the Celts are in the playoffs before saying Ainge made the correct move.

In truth, Ainge is pretty much screwed UNLESS the Celts win, bc most Celtic fans thought that was the end game before the Perkins move.  Regardless if the trade is better financially or personal wise, if the Celts dont get to the finals, Ainge will feel the brunt of peoples angst.

Well I dont agree, bc it depends on what the criteria is?  Murphy is a slow, over paid 30 year old who will do very little in the future for the Celtics outside of this year.  Semih is a 24 year old big who can run, move, who has played all of 1/2 a season in the NBA.   Ill take Semih.  Thanks, you keep the over-hyped Irish grad who will not be able to hang with Howard, Noah or Gasol.

People really did not give Semih a chance.

Whether $8.7 million per is too much or too little for Perk will depend on the new CBA.  I think it's approximately fair value.

I love Semih, but Murphy is a proven defensive rebounder and face-up shooter.

In terms of GM performance, the only hole I see is, if Delonte is injured, back-up PG.  And Delonte is always injured.  Otherwise, I don't see what more you could ask of Danny.

How is Murphy overpaid, we are paying him the vet min the rest of the season, and since when is 30 being old as an backup center?

such nonsense

Semih is going to need surgery on both of his shoulders this off-seaso, Danny Ainge has already said this and he wasn't going to be able to play effectively the rest of the season

Did someone in here say that Erden is better than Troy Murphy, who was a 15/10 guy last year?

Kristic >> Erden
Murphy >> Perk on offense
Perk > Murphy on defense

Semih Erden knew how to dunk without losing the ball... that's his skill.

KRStic is better than him, Murphy is better than him, hell i'd debate that this kid Chris Johnson is on the same level as Semih. The kid is a decent player who knows how to finish... nothing special.

It all comes down to how well the team gels.  On paper, Danny won the trade, but in reality there are 25 games left to get this team working as a fully functioning unit.  Doc has talked repeatedly about how important knowledge of the system is, and how hard it is for newcomers.  We need all of the new guys to be on an advanced learning curve.

The Celtics did. To the tune of 530 minutes this year. And it was glaringly obvious that he was not good enough to be getting minutes on a championship contender. Not on both ends of the court or rebounding the ball.

Semih was okay but he was not going to help us win this year and he is not the second coming of Rik Smits either.  Just don't see this as a huge loss and I don't see him becoming a better player than Troy Murphy.

Adding Murphy is a good move.  This year has been a lost year for him but he should be able to get into shape over the next month or so.  He's a proven rebounder and with his ability to shoot from the perimeter will stretch our opponents defense.  Just be glad he brought his talents to Boston and not Miami.

I KIND OF understand newer fans not remembering how good Krstic was in New Jersey, but to not remember Troy Murphy who was a beast LAST YEAR? That's just insane.

Last season Troy was 7th in the league for Rebounds per game. 10.2. Howard, Camby, Randolph, Lee, Boozer, and Bosh were ahead.
