For the record, Murphy is leagues and bounds better than Erden.

If you think otherwise you dont have a clue.

Semih Erden knew how to dunk without losing the ball... that's his skill.

KRStic is better than him, Murphy is better than him, hell i'd debate that this kid Chris Johnson is on the same level as Semih.
The kid is a decent player who knows how to finish... nothing special.

Agreed.

It all comes down to how well the team gels.  On paper, Danny won the trade, but in reality there are 25 games left to get this team working as a fully functioning unit.  Doc has talked repeatedly about how important knowledge of the system is, and how hard it is for newcomers.  We need all of the new guys to be on an advanced learning curve.

I dunno if anyone really "won" that trade. I think it might be one of the extremely rare one where it works out well for both parties. OKC got a battle tested defensive center, we got a potential Paul Pierce protege and a pick that's likely to be in the late lottery.

All is well (once Perk heals) for both sides, I think.

good point

the good thing about this trade though is all the players we are acquiring have pretty high basketball IQ's.

I liked Semih, but it was clear he was regressing, perhaps due to injury and lay-off, but nonetheless a fact. Krystic is more skilled, more experienced, and healthier.  It is not even close.

The ultimate measure of this deal is how well Jeff Green will fit in.  He clearly can play a role on this current squad as a useful off the bench swing guy. But will he be able to become a starter in 2 years, if we are to remain a championship contender? Would he be satisfied staying as a key bench guy for a championship caliber team in 2 years, and take a reduced salary in line with that type of player?

Now that Troy has committed to us, and Perkins quickly signed an extension that would have been way to much to afford, Danny has been completely vindicated for making the trade. It took guts to do what he did. Kudos to Ainge for making this happen.

And if the Celtics lose in the finals bc the Lakers, Mavs, OKC or Spurs out rebound us?  or Gasol kills the Celts again on the boards in the finals?

Will he still be vindicated?

See, this kind of argument can go both ways bc is PURE SPECULATION.

Ill wait until a month has gone by, see where the Celts are in the playoffs before saying Ainge made the correct move.

In truth, Ainge is pretty much screwed UNLESS the Celts win, bc most Celtic fans thought that was the end game before the Perkins move.  Regardless if the trade is better financially or personal wise, if the Celts dont get to the finals, Ainge will feel the brunt of peoples angst.
So we weren't out-rebounded with Perk on the team? Rebounding isn't even the issue. Murphy can out-rebound Perk. What Perk adds is post defense. If Howard destroys us in the post and we lose to Orlando, than you have a point.

If we are out-rebounded at the end of a game, then the point is also moot because Perk might have been on the bench at the end.

And Perk is still injured. Let's see what he does in the playoffs for OKC first.

No one 'wins' trades. The wisdom of a trade is evaluated separately for each participant.

Well, both teams can "win" from their own perspective, by getting back players that make their team better.  It's not a team vs. team competition, but rather pre-trade vs. post-trade evaluation.

I am from the school who does not feel we would have won game 7 of the Laker series with Perkins. We were atrocious on offense, not defense. While we were out-rebounded, when did Perkins become this great rebounder.  We lost game 7 because we did not have a healthy KG. If we had KG playing then the way he plays now, I am confident we would have won 18 last year. So, what does this have to be with Danny smelling like a rose now? Well, I think Danny's opinion of Perk was lower than the marketplace, and he used exploited that discrepancy to his advantage.

I think we won the Rondo trade, as well as the McHale/Parrish trade.

for those of you who say that Perk is better than Murphy on defense - that may have been so in the past but is it true this year?  He has been torched this year by Howard whom he used to give fits to.  Its not the same Perk - he won't be himself until next year - he came back too soon from that injury.  Danny must have looked at it that way knowing that he would not be able to re-sign him next year and opted not to retain a Perk that would be a shadow of his former self until next year.  Maybe an injured Perk is better than a Healthy Murphy defensively - I think that its probably a wash.

No.  Just, no.  Even banged up, Perk is an above-average defender.  Murphy is literally one of the worst defensive centers / power forwards in the NBA.  Also, he's had his own injury issues this year, so it's not 100% certain that Murphy is fully healthy.

Murphy is much better and more versatile on offense, and he's a superior rebounder.  If he was a good defender, too, he'd be considered the best (or at worst, second best) center in the NBA.  He doesn't have that reputation because his D royally stinks.

Perk's scowl is a better defender than Murphy.

yup, all these moves don't make sense if you don't follow the rest of the nba and only watch the celtics. i've seen a fair amount of OKC and knew we weren't getting just a throw in in krstic along with green. and if you've seen murphy play, there is no comparison with erden. this team upgraded big time. i suspect a lot of this uproar was from people that had a) never heard of green or nenand b) sentimental about perk (which i can understand) c) listening to too much espn about how dumb this move was. or any combo of the above.
