A second unit of

West
Brewer
Green
BBD
Kristic or JO

That is probably the best 2nd unit in the league. Very capable on both sides of the ball and won't suffer scoring droughts. Give us plenty of time to rest the big 3.

Brewer is a very long and athletic defender and can really get out on the fast break and finish above the rim . If you put him in a lineup of

Rondo
Brewer
PP or Ray
Green
KG

The defense on that unit would be awesome. We could give Ray some rest while Brewer guards Wade/Kobe.  Rondo with this lineup on the fast break would be a sight to see throwing up alley oops to Brewer, Green and KG, finding PP/Ray trailing for 3's

I think this would be a very big and underrated pickup

Brewer = TA
Green = Posey x2

I really like Brewer, when I saw those Gators I thought he and Noah would be huge in green. I still think so. Al Horford may be the more talented of the 3, but the other two are great at D.

Corey could play the TA role and do it even better.

I'd prefer Azuibuke, even with his injury.  Brewer is a decent long term flyer, but I have little confidence he could really step in and help this year.  I don't get the fascination.

Sort of.  I mean I'd be quite happy if we got Brewer, don't get me wrong.  But I also question just how much he would play in a playoff game.

With Jeff Green on board, I seriously wonder how much of a full "second unit" we're going to see in the playoffs.  The only way to get him fairly big minutes to is get creative with substitutions.  And that might mean playing Pierce at the 2 to give him more "3" minutes, which somewhat negates the need for a backup 2.

That's not saying that Brewer isn't desirable.  He certainly is.  But I could see situations in the playoffs when he might only play 5 mpg.

Danny would be really changing the paradigm if he brings in two young, talented, healthy players within the same month.  It'd almost be weird...

Agreed.

Brewer is an elite wing defender. Excellent rebounder, great open court finisher, solid passer. Brewer just needs a jump-shot to be one of the elite role-players in the league.

Can Azubuike still play? How the heck can you be more confident in him than in Brewer? That seems weird to me. Azubuike had the kind of injury that terminates careers more than 1 year ago - about what, 18 months ago? - and hasn't played a single minute since. Not even a minute. How can you be confident he can even play?

Brewer is the defender we need on the wing to battle Kobe, LeBrawn, etc

With Rondo, Bradley, Brewer & Green, the Celtics would have some much needed speed

Brewer would be James Posey Jr.

I beg to differ. We dont need another young guy looking to prove himself. We need a veteran that is going to give us solid minutes and wants to win. Brewer is young, looking to become established, and fighting for a paycheck... We need someone proven who just wants to win and play selfish basketball to help the team. Brewer on Bryant and LeBron? Thats a scary though for us.

Pretty simple, I don't think, healthy or not, Brewer is good enough to help this team right now.  At least with Azubuike, if he can get healthy, he would be able to step right in and help.

Okay, but believing that guy who hasn't played in 17 months and whose career is probably over can't step right in and help is quite extraordinary. I'd take any healthy player in the NBA and most unhealthy ones over Buike. Is he even practising?

Why do you dislike Brewer so much? At least he can defend at the highest level, rebound the ball extremely well for position and run the break. Perimeter defense is always useful.

  • The good ole days.
I was surprised the Knicks didn't want him.  I know he's been a big disappointment offensively, but I have a hard time judging anyone on their struggles in the Wolves "system"... he does some thinks very well for a perimeter guy - defend, rebound, run, finish on the break... seems like a perfect guy to complement a starting 5 that includes three scorers (Amare, Melo, Billups) while allowing Fields to come off the bench and have the green light.  It also gives them some much needed defense in that starting 5. I suppose it would apply well to the Celtics too, although adding him after trading for Green seems slightly redundant.  Big man depth is clearly a priority, but Brewer wouldn't be a terrible pick up in my opinion.

I wouldn't depend on Azubuike at this point.

He was a very good role player before the injury but coming off an injury that serious ... this late in the year ... without any practices or training camp ... and expecting him to be able to be a contributor ...  ugh, not comfortable with that.

I would be much more comfortable depending on a guy like Corey Brewer.

Brewer would be a great pick up. In my mind getting a player as talented a player as brewer makes all the player dumping we did more worth it.

Brewer is still only 24, he is statistily similare to tony allen. As previosly stated he would come in and fill TA role when posey was with us. When going against labron, wade, kobe, melo, and durnat it would be realy nice to have a 6'9 athletic wing to be able to throw at them through out the game.

I also like the idea of the athletasism and length we will game with green and brewer on the court together.

He'd fit in great with our team...no one's asking him to shoot a ton. Just do your thing and play good defense, and Doc and company will be happy.
