I know MLE but what is LLE?  ???

It really should be abbreviated the "BAE".  It's the Bi-Annual Exception, which can be used every other year.  It's roughly $2 million, and can be used to give up to a two year contract.

I could really see him finding Miami attractive considering how much they can use big man help. He would definitely find minutes there. He also might have a better chance for a decent contract in Miami next season than getting it in Boston.

On the other hand, Coming to Boston would give us a level of front court depth that would make it hard to imagine us not being the favorites in the East.

Miami has 15 players under contract no? Or am I mistaken... who would they waive, particularly if they're also eyeing Bibby.

If Murphy ends wearing green, I'll root for the guy and all, but there's something I didn't knew about him. I wanted to know his playoff stats, but I couldn't find them. He hasn't played in the postseason.

So... what would the Celtics want Murphy for? Playing in the regular season to save minutes for the O'Neals, I guess. Because he hasn't playoff experience, he is no veteran presence for the postseason.

I know that doesn't keep him from helping the team, and I'd love the Celtics to get Corey Brewer, who has about the same playoff experience as Murphy. Rip and Powe have championship experience, so my dream scenario would be Rip, Powe and Sheed. If Sheed gets ready for the playoffs, and is willing to take the pain from his back problems (very big if, I know), there isn't a better big man out there.

If the Celtics can't get Sheed and Rip, Brewer and Murphy could be nice. If Powe's health is as good as he's telling, they better lock him as soon as possible. They need insurance for both the regular season and playoffs, and experience is highly required in that case.

Wait you are going to fault a guy for playing on crappy teams? There are plenty of things you can criticize Murphy for like his defense and sometimes lack of effort, but faulting a guy because he has been on crappy teams that haven't been able to make the playoffs is silly.

It's not like he gets to make the personnel decisions for his teams.

Calm down, I didn't say it's his fault, I don't know if he would have made personnel decisions better than the ones that ran his teams, but I wasn't blaming the man.

His lack of experience doesn't disqualify him, but he hasn't been there yet. I also don't run the Celtics (good thing), so credit/blame in case of him playing for the team will be ought to Danny Ainge.

The day he wears green I'll root for the kid and support him through thick and thin, but this boards are a good place to express whatever silly (or not) opinion.

If we grab him and have a 2nd unit of

West
Butler
Green
Baby
Murphy/Kristic/JO

then we are set. I would be very very happy.

The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics have emerged as the leaders to sign forward Troy Murphy, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com.

Murphy, who was traded last week to the Golden State Warriors after spending nearly two months in exile with the New Jersey Nets, completed a buyout agreement Sunday, source told ESPN.com.

Sources said that the Portland Trail Blazers also expressed interest in Murphy but he is deciding between the two East powers.

In a flurry of deals right at last Thursday's deadline, the Celtics traded three big men and also opened up three roster spots. Part of the strategy, league executives said, was to make room for one or two free agents to be added after buyout season. Murphy is a top choice to fill one of those roles.

The Heat have struggled this season with rebounding and scoring from their bench and Murphy would fill a need there. Miami currently has 15 players on its roster and would have to release a player to make room for Murphy.

Murphy has not played since Jan. 7 and averaged just 3.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in 18 games for the Nets. But he has a history of being a solid outside shooter and rebounder. He averaged 14.6 points and 10.2 rebounds in more steady minutes last season with the Indiana Pacers.

Miami also is interested in point guard Mike Bibby if he can obtain a buyout from the Washington Wizards. The Washington Post reported on Sunday that Bibby's agent, David Falk, will meet with the Wizards Monday to discuss buyout terms.

Bibby has one more season on his contract after this year, a factor that might make the buyout terms more complicated.

DO IT NOW, DANNY!!!!!!

i'm 80% sure he signs with the Celtics, 19% sure he signs with Miami, 1% sure he signs with someone else. these are just numbers i came up with of course but for the most part, i've read reports leadin to the buyout that 1) Murphy is leaning towards the Celtics and 2) Ainge and the GSW management are close, which may play a part. :P

I think Orlando had the best offer in terms of playing time and size of role. Murphy should start there and allow Bass to resume his bench role where he is more effective.

Miami and Boston are fairly equal. Possible advantage for Miami, role wise, but I'm not certain they'll guarantee him a role big enough for that.

I'm not happy he got bought out. He might go to Miami, crossing my fingers he comes here. I rather take my chances staying pat than giving opportunities for other teams to grow stronger.
I don't care what these players might bring for us. Anyone we sign right now will barely get on the floor if at all. We just need to add depth, but the prospects of a player going to a team where he can actually be useful (Miami) is not worth the risk for us.

But we'll see, there's not much we can do about it but see how it plays out.
Agreed -- more to lose than to gain here.

Hopefully, it'll play out alright for the C's.

C'mon Troy: us white Irishmen last about 1 day in the hot sun before getting miserable sunburns...besides, it's just about spring time in Boston by now anyways!

The obvious choice for them to waive is "locker room guy" Jamaal Magloire.  The next person might be injured fatboy project Dexter Pittman if they are unhappy with his progress, but he did make the D-League All-Star team, so probably not.
