By his estimation a team shouldn't try to improve a team through trade because chemistry will always be messed up. Chemistry is a risk, but you don't hold off on trying to improve a team because of it. That's how teams get stuck.

They brought Stephon freaking Marbury on board, for God's sakes. He didn't seem to upset chemistry.

I doubt that Green, who from all accounts sounds like a super teammate and Kristic, whom other than having a rep as being soft, was resigned by the Thunder, will be chemistry issues.

Seriously, folks.  The one thing we know about Ainge is that he completely desleazed the roster and brought in all character guys.  I'm sure he did his homework as to whom he was bringing in.

Lol.

It's silly to say anything definitive now.  We really need to wait and see.

Also, I'm not too worried about the vets.  They're too old with too little time left to not make this thing work.

It'd be one thing if this was the Miami Big Three who could afford to sulk about this.  But given the uncertainty about CBA, this truly might be Ray and KG's last hurrah.

Really?  We start 4 allstars.  Does the 5th starter really need to be that great to contend?

I agree with Pierce. There are some very talented guys in the NBA that would just be a waste on the Celtics roster, because they don't buy into the team philosophy.

That said, we shouldn't read to much into the players' reactions. Give them some days to get their heads on straight. They didn't even have a shootaround after the trade and probably still need to talk it out.

The one thing that every opposing player (Wade, Howard, Lebron, etc.) talked about in regard to the Celtics was our cohesion/chemistry.  I think there's something to that, which is why the reaction around the league is that we made a mistake here.
So did you and the rest of the league only watch the 12 games that Perk played in this year?

on court chemistry with Shaq was off the charts, especially with Rondo and KG

Guess the only problem is, Shaq really isn't on the court enough.

Same thing happened last year with the Cavs. Missed 36 games during the season. Didn't miss a game in the playoffs.

But, back to your pessimism on everything....don't let facts get in the way.

The way some of them talk, you´d think their dog just died.

Perk´s not dead. Get his phone number, and you can talk each night before you go to sleep. You know, like normal people when they have to move to a new city because of their job.

It seems some people here played too much 2K11 with all this chemistry talk going on right now. It´s not gone, it just changed. Who knows, maybe even for the better.

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

They went 7-5 since Perk came back, and are less than .5 game up on Miami. Winning percentage .58%

They were 34-10 before he came back, and were 4 games up in first place.  Winning percen .77%

I am not saying this is all on Perk.  But even Doc said Shaq was better with our starters.

His last games centers scored.

18 Lopez Nets
9  Ilgauskas Heat
16 Bynum Lakers
4 Brown Hornets
28 Howard Magic
14 Chandler Mavs

One would expect him to do well against Kwame Brown and Zdrunas Ilgauskas who don't have great mobility.   Chandler scoring 14, Bynum scoring 16 is not too surprising.  18 by Robin Lopez suprised me.  28 from Howard doesn't surprise me as well as he is hard to stop.  But I definitely thought his lateral mobility and range were affected by his injury.

The reinjury probably set Danny to get something from someone he thought was walking on us this summer.  The defense was not was it was prior to the injury but still I think many are thinking he was a much better defender than what he truly was folks.

pp's thoughts seems a bit negative on first read, but if you analyze it carefully, all he is saying is they were shocked and sad that they lost a part of their family. chemistry is important and will be affected but if the new guys will buy in to what they are trying to do (play D, unselfish basketball, win championship) then it will be ok.

give it time and they will reach acceptance stage.

pp experienced toine leaving, even at a younger age, so i think losing perk is easier for him to accept. KG and ray both have friends traded and were traded themselves so they understand. only person im worrying about is rondo.

On an ideal world they will all retire as celtics, but we know that is not the case in sports. trades happen and players have to deal with these all the time.

As fans losing perk is really a big blow. he has the second longest tenure among current celtics next to pp. He was with us during the losing seasons and contender seasons. We saw him develop from an overweight big man on the bench who look surprised when asked to shoot freethrows in the playoffs to a starting center on a championship team. We saw him battle various injuries, hate and loved his techs, his screens and his scowl.

Only time will tell if this trade is a boon or bane.

Was Pierce crying when they sent Wally and Jefferson away? I remember him being in a press conference all smiles.

There was plenty of crying on here to make up for it.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

People should check out Ray Allen's interview for the more measured, business-like response.  KG and to a lesser degree Pierce are the emotional leaders of the team.  They save the business perspectives for the offseason.  During the season they buy into the warrior imagery.

KG's going to come around; I think he blows off steam pretty well just because he plays so intense that he gets catharsis quickly.  Pierce should be a little quicker (his 'nature of the beast' comment shows that he's already come to terms with it).  Not sure about Rondo, dude is too hard to read.

Ray said that the team had a similar reaction when Eddie got traded last year.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson

I may be the guy posting winning % but I am just trying to validate the trade as a fan.   Trying to make some sense of it.

Most all of us hate losing our guy who has proven himself in the trenches.

Chemistry is everything on a team. That is what 'team' demands. That being said, I think it's much easier to integrate new players if their particular skill set is more versatile. It allows current players to play the game they have been playing and also work in the new players strengths as well. KG, Ray, Paul and Rondo are some of the most versatile players in the game and from what I understand about Green he has a lot of versatility as well. He will mesh well and team chemistry will be fine.
