The absence of Perk is not what kept us from winning.

What kept us from winning was Pierce going 5-15 and Ray Allen going 3-14.

Celtics lost because of 19 and 18.

The amount of points and rebounds that Gasol got.

Because while Piece and Ray didn't shoot well, Kobe was also 6-24.

We also lossed because Wallace was our only scoring option after the Big 3. When Posey was here, we dominated the Lakers...Our bench dominated the Lakers! No way we can compete running up and down with the young swingmen, especially if Perk couldnt stay on the floor. Perk is still a big IF anyway you look at it.

Except the game Perk missed.  Odom and Gasol actually were good in that game after being pushed around in the other games.  (and were pushed around the next game when Perk returned)

As long as we have Rondo, Pierce, and Garnett, defense will never be an issue. We held playoff bound Denver to under 90 points with Glen Davis and Johnson playing center. We need players with skillsets at the wing positions to help us score. Our defense is the best in the league with or without Perk.

A nugget team that had just traded away Melo and Billups and the Celtics lost to??

Really?

Yes the same playoff bound Nuggets team that blew out Memphis with only 8 dressed players 2 days prior, scoring 120 points.

Memphis.  Another of the big guns in the NBA.

If the playoffs started today, Memphis would be in.

So would Philly.  What does that mean?  It is to easy to get into the NBA playoff.

A lot ofthe doubters on this trade point to the risk of relying on Jermaine and Shaq to win 18 this year.  Well, even if we had Perk, I don't think we had much of a chance of winning 18 without Shaq and Jermaine.  We would still be lacking in size against the Lakers.  Perk was getting eaten up by Bynum this year.  This is not Perkins pre knee injury we were dealing with.

This also not the Celtics preMarquis Daniels injury along with that.

Also, remember that we didn't have this year's KG either.

That is good.

But unless the Oneal's are back (and those are big ifs) the Celtics are undersized once again.

That's the part that has me hung up on this deal.

I get the logic of talent (Green and a 1st) and money (whether or not the Celtics could resign Perk) of the trade.

I don't get the logic in terms of winning a ring this season.

We got 3 roster spots open to fill the roster. You can't make declarations and assumptions on how this current roster will play in the playoffs when we don't have a full roster yet.

And Krstic is no weak sauce, he's a decent player. Of course, not much of a defensive man, but he has his strengths, so it's not like we really are left naked on that regard.

Prior to the trade, Philly would probably beat us in a 7 game series. Id be willing to bet money it'd at least go to game 7.

Philly is not Cleveland. Sleep on those young boys if you want to.

We said the same thing about the Hawks in 08.

I get the logic of talent (Green and a 1st) and money (whether or not the Celtics could resign Perk) of the trade.

I don't get the logic in terms of winning a ring this season.

The team needed a backup SF to replace Daniels.  The roster also really needed someone who could play as a stretch four, which Harangody couldn't provide (and neither could BBD).  And Ainge probably determined that he could get a better big than a wing on the buy-out market.

The team is probably better off gambling on at least one O'Neal being healthy on any given moment than on Von Wafer being an adequate backup for Paul Pierce.

If we had J.R. Smith instead of Wafer I would have been happy doing nothing. Wafer is a poorer poor man's version of J.R..

And Philly is not a pushover team...They are twice as deep as us on the wings. Iggy, Louis Williams, Meeks, Thaddeus Young, Evan turner, kapono. Wow! They'd run circles around us all day prior to trade!!!!

I'm not so sure Ray and Paul's legs will be so fresh now that the guys they defend will just run down the middle all night. We lost the main guy who opponents feared when going into the lane.

Did players just run down the middle all night before Perk came back?
