Seems many fans opinions of Green vary pretty widely from my own. So thought it would be useful to the discussion to collect some odds and sods in a single post or thread.

In four seasons his Player Efficiency Rating has never reached league average.

He grabs a lower percentage of defensive rebounds (13.7%) than Pierce (15.4%).

For the Thunder this season he's posted a -3.7 points per 100 possessions. The offense was +2.3 points better with Green on the court, but the defense was -6.0 points worse.

In order, he prefers the three point shot (3.7 attempts per game), scoring at the rim (3.5 attempts per game), short jumpers (2.4 attempts per game), long twos (2.2 attempts per game). He rarely shoots the 10-15 footer (0.8 attempts per game).

This season he's finishing at the rim strong, shooting 74.1%. League average for forwards is 58.2%. And shooting just a hair below the league average on 16-23 foot jumpers (39%). He's below average inside 10 feet (29.7% versus 38.9%), from 10-15 feet (22.2% versus 38%) and from behind the arc (30.6% versus 35.9%).

Defensively Green really struggles in the two areas that the Thunder as a whole have struggled with this season. He allows 1.11 PPP in iso situations (ranking him 215th in the NBA) while allowing 1.16 PPP in spot-up situations (ranking him 247th in the NBA).

He's averaged the second highest minutes total on the Thunder behind Kevin Durant - 37.0 mpg.

Thanks for the info, tp. I can't tell anything from stats, I want to see him play. He doesn't have to be a great defender, he "just" needs to learn to play Celtics team defense.

Jeff Green has HUGE shoes to fill, I can easily see him getting booed at the Garden and being shunned by the rest of the team if he doesent produce.

Isn't he also only 24 and isn't his better position the 3, which Durant obviously had filled on that team?

Green will not get booed because even Nate didn't get booed.

Green's contract situation works out well for us. He will likely have a one year contract for next season as a backup, but we should have a starting spot for him by the time he is an unrestricted FA.

You can see him getting booed at the garden? Celtics fans don't boo their own players...  It's not like Green called up Danny Ainge and made him trade Kendrick Perkins.  I'm sorry but this is getting ridiculous.

And this is coming from someone with Antoine Walker in his profile.

Why wouldn't Green look to sign a new deal after this season? He could easily command more years and money than what he is slotted to make in 2011/12. Am I missing something?

My take on Jeff Green ...

Jeff Green is a poor man's Tayshaun Prince.

He has been played out of position for the past three years which is the only reason his defensive statistics are as bad as they are.

And those numbers are spot on, Jeff Green is often a defensive liability at the four. He doesn't have the size or heft needed to matchup at that position. He can give quality defense against some quick/undersized PFs, perimeter based fours and combo forwards like himself as a power forward. However, he cannot matchup against PFs with good size, bulk and/or tall PFs.

As a small forward, Jeff Green is a good to very good defensive player with excellent defensive potential. He is also a solid rebounder vs the liability he is at the four spot.

He has solid ball-handling ability, good passer, has a post game, decent jump shot. He has a well rounded skill-set offensively that badly needs refinement for him to become a high quality scoring threat.

In terms of creating mismatches against opponents ... as a PF, his main asset is his quickness advantage. As a SF, his best asset is his size and strength. So he should play quite well against teams with undersized SFs or two guards masquerading as SFs. Against big SFs, say Marvin Williams, Jeff Green will have a tough time creating his own shot and will need to rely on others to create openings for him.

Jeff Green is a much more consistent shot-creator at the four than the three (quickness advantage at PF happens more regularly than his size advantage at SF).

They booed the team for playing bad, effortless, uninspired basketball.  And if Jeff Green comes to town and plays like that, he'll deserve it.

But something tells me that won't happen.  He'll get a standing ovation on his first home game, and as long as he plays hard his teammates and his fans will support him.

Those stats show that his biggest liability was defense; however, he was having to play a lot of PF which is not his natural position.

With Green playing a more versatile and wing role on a team that is better designed for defense, he shouldn't have a problem.

He's definitely athletic enough to play defense...just gotta see if he's smart enough!

I'm not worried about his offense though. He has the skills, we just need to see if he can put it into use in the Celtics system where there is less isolation and more play-calling.

Thankfully we have Delonte running the bench instead of Nate now.

I bet those numbers are skewed from him playing out of position.
