danny just on weei....

1. hard to let perk go…agononized over the decision
2. shaq will return next week
3. expects JO to be full go by april and feels he is a big piece going forward...felt shaq played very well with starters and was best used as a starter
4. danny was worried about the injuries…esp with erden and perk
5. they will look to sign 3 guys…a big, wing and a guard in that order…
6. had an eye on the other contenders when they made this deal
7. they know who they want in buy outs and said they are ready to pounce as soon as they can..
8. would love to sign either a great defender or a great shooter
9. johnson is a guy that is going to get them through until next week when kristic comes and shaq returns
10. said shaq is closer to returning that perk was

So Danny was worried about Perk's and Erden's injuries, but not worried about injuries to the oldest player in the league and injuries to the guy who might be the oldest 32-year-old player in the league.

You believe Danny about Shaq? When he first got hurt, he was going to miss maybe a couple of games?

I find it interesting that Danny says he expects to Have JO at full strength come April. Give me a break,. The guy has not gone full out all year and all of a sudden in April he will. That makes me laugh out loud.

What happens if Perk morphs into the next Leon Powe?

It could happen, you know?

If so, he just pawned off a decent center with low-post skills, a nice scoring wing, and a 1st round pick that could be kept or shipped off in another deal...

What if Perk demands a HUGE contract (which he will) and he's still gimping around on that knee?

Danny learned a great lesson in doing what Red never would do: don't be afraid to move a guy too SOON.  Better a year too early than a year (and lots of money) too late...

Tough to swallow at first, but sir, this could be the best post of the day,  people need to read this post again.  All the best Perk, but a pre emptive strike was made.  We'll see how it plays out

gearing up to offer a max contract to a free agent in 2012 o start the post big 3 era

But why give up 60 games into the season when you've been playing really well?

I don't see it.

+1 to the OPs point of view.

how is this giving up? the roster will be stronger heading into the playoffs this yeat and the main competition is miami...this deal really helps boston match up with them better

I don't see how this makes them better. They beat Miami 3 times with the old lineup... what will the new lineup accomplish?? This move could work... or it could blow up in Dannys face, much like it did with Otis Smith and the Magic move he made earlier in the season.

You do realize that two of those times was without Perk right?

swing and a miss... yes I know that but they had the other 4 guys they traded away. In no way does this mean the end of the season or does it mean they won't win the finals... they still could but saying that they are a stronger team without knowing who replaces those guys who left is jumping ahead. We simply don't know. I hope they are stronger and better.

Hard to believe the JO stuff, but the injury issues with Perk were a bit troublesome.  I continue to withhold judgement until I see who the Cs can bring in from the waiver/buyout wire...

Listen, I'm not here to make any bold promises.  To be honest, if I was in Danny's shoes, I probably would've stood pat today.

However, last year people on this board were all about throwing in the towel thinking that the C's were too old and that Ray and Rasheed were washed up.  Those people were wrong on all accounts.

That's not to say that every thing you just said won't prove to be right.  It may.  However, we could also sign some nice buyout players, JO and Shaq could both be back, and Green may end up forming a lineup with the Big Four that's unstoppable.

People are acting like Perk was traded for nobody.  Jeff Green is going to be a solid addition to this team.  He is going to help prolong the careers of KG and Pierce by playing a lot of their minutes.

Green's versatility will allow the C's to go big (Pierce at the 2, Green at the 3) or small (Green at the 4, KG at the 5).  If they go small this will be a great running team, a perfect finisher for a Rondo fast break.  Those matchups against young teams like Atlanta won't be as frightening now.

While I agree that a lot is being put on Shaq and J.O.'s shoulders, we also have Big Baby and possibly Sheed or Troy Murphy.

Perk's D was solid but the offense was stagnant when he was in with Rondo.  If they can get someone to finish alley-oops it will be an offensive upgrade.

Heck, the guys they might get in buyouts (Murphy, Ford, Rip, Kapono) could collectively have more impact than Perk, offensively of course.

They sold Perk high and and bought Jeff Green low.  Excellent job Danny.

I was gone from the computer for a few minutes and now THIS!!!???

Kendrick Perkins & Robinson for Green and Kristic?? Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. is Boston DOING?? I guess they want L.A. to have an easier path to the title. Now NO ONE MATCHES OUR SIZE :D

First time ever over on Celtics Blog. They’re all completely in disbelief and outraged over this trade. As much as I hate dem leprechauns, I must admit Miami and Chicago are probably favorites now to come out

We can all thank Marquis Daniels for this. I hope he gets well, but if he hadnt of gotten hurt, Perkins would still be there.

Boston just committed suicide to their title hopes but now OKC is a legit threat to win it all. Perkins ibaka Durant Harden/Sefalosha Westbrook at crunch time. Holy crap!

True, while one can argue we lost game 7 because we didn't have Perk's rebounding and defense, we also lost that game because the offense stagnated partly because we didn't have other options and partly because Ray and Paul were worn down.  Also, let's not undersell the fact that had Shaq or even gimpy Jermaine O'Neal from earlier this season been in Game 7, we also would've likely won.

Agree with all of this and the TP.

There is no doubt in my mind that the buyout of Troy Murphy is immenent, he is coming to Boston, and he has been promised the Center behind Shaq job for 25 + MPG.

I also believe there is another 'mystery' player coming to join us later on. I have no idea who it is and it really doesnt matter. Hopefully it is based on the Cavs trade and is one of their guys.

Danny has made a bold move here and we will be better for it in the long run.

Too early to tell.

We'll see what other shoe to fall is (see buyouts) and see how the rest of the reason plays out.

Their core is still in tact.  Its up to health, IMO.

I agree, but I'd feel more comfortable about Perk's health than Shaq's or JO's which isn't saying much.

I just don't think we can get anyone through buyouts that will make us stronger before we did this trade.

"Danny Ainge is an idiot. The most consistent team in the league this season just gutted their team."

my thoughts exactly - i am sick over this. we trade away a true Celtic, who was part of the best chemistry in the league, for a good 3 man and a bunch of soft stiffs who absolutely do not match the current Celtic team personality or style of play.

oh yeah, did i mention we just traded away our starting championship center who was one of the two main building blocks for the future and who wanted #18 this year worse than anybody on the team ??

what is Danny thinking - did he forget we were considered the current favorite to win the title this season ?

Not to underestimate what Perk brought defensively but he was an offensive liability that didn't even play at the end of games.  Not to mention that we played extremely well without Perk for most of the year.

A lot will depend on Shaq but is he can stay heatlhy, I think we just got better and definitely more versatile.
Shaq will not give us much. Shaq will be in foul trouble most of the time. The trade does not make sense to me still.
