I didn't mind having Shaq and JO as out backup bigs. But now we're going to depend on those old, worn out legs. That makes me VERY worried. I don't care so much about the future. I wanted the best chance we had from #18 this year. And I'm not so sure we've got that anymore.

Guys, Miami is the Future. When that team get's a bench (and they will) in a year or so it will win almost every year. We needed to get another ring while we could.

It all comes down to the health of JO and Shaq. IF we can get 30 minutes combined out of them in the playoffs, we will be fine.  I also think Troy Murphy, Green, and Delonte will play big roles off the bench.

TP.

Cant believe you would trade away your NBA Championship bid because youre fifth best player MIGHT walk at the end of the year.  Ridiculous

We've done pretty well without Perk this year...

The goal is to get Shaq back healthy and hope for Jermaine to come back.  If they do, this team will be fine.  Everyone is acting like we just traded Wilt Chamberlain away...  ::)

eez, I feel like half the NBA world just went brain dead. Perk has only averaged 6 and 6. He is a good defender, but come on. The C's did just fine without him while he was gone. They now have a 6"9" combo 3 some 4 who averages 15 and 5. They have Kristic who was averaging 7 and 5. He is an upgrade over Semih's minutes. They have Delonte coming back and Shaq and hopefully Jermaine for a a stretch run.

I do not know how any C's fan can not be stoked about this. Perk has got to be one of the NBA's most overrated players. Take way Garnett's help side defense and suddenly Perk is not such a great defender. That and he is coming off major surgery.

Boston's new motto ought to be in Danny we trust.

i tend to think the roster will be much stronger heading into the playoff than last year...KG wasn't healthy...daniels was hurt...sheldon williams was on the bench and we had a fat and lazy sheed....look at this year...legit #2 PG in west....legit SF in Green...plus baby...a 3 TBA guys that will contribute

I can just imagine the outrage now if we didn't win a title and Perkins walked.  ::)

Exactly. Or if Perkins injures his OTHER knee because he's favoring the surgically repaired one, then we lose, THEN he walks for nothing.

TP to you...  I know it's a minority voice, but I'm with you.  I've never like Perk.  He's very limited and his "toughness" is overrated.

We now have another guy who can SCORE the basketball in Jeff Green.  If Murphy comes on board we've won in this because we also get the LA Griffin's 1st Round pick, which will ALWAYS be a good pick to get...

We're fine...

Too early to tell.

We'll see what other shoe to fall is (see buyouts) and see how the rest of the reason plays out.

Their core is still in tact.  Its up to health, IMO.

Ditto.  I definitely agree with the OP's sentiment, but let's see how this plays out over the next couple of weeks with buyouts.

i think people need to take a chill pill. let's see what ends up happening with the buyout players first and then we can decide. people act like perkins is an irreplaceable player. i like perkins too but he is far from irreplaceable. the only players the c's really cant afford to lose are KG and rondo.

right now:
rondo/west/bradley
allen/wafer/west
pierce/green/wafer
kg/davis/green
shaq/jo/krstic

let's wait to see who gets bought first and gets plugged into the big man rotation before we start claiming the c's run is done.

Harangody, Nate, Marquis and even Semih...I understand why they had to be traded/let go. All we needed was a back up SF and to a lesser extent a PG.

WHY PERK?? and why now? If they felt that his asking price was going to be too much this summer, then we could have worked out a sign and trade.

27 games to go...and we have new players coming in who will have to learn to play in our system...learn defense etc. Good luck, Doc. You'll need it. We may have just bid homecourt advantage a good bye.

...as for Danny, if he really wanted to gamble today, he should have bought a few mega-millions lotto tickets. Perk was a valuable chip that we could have atleast held onto until summer.

It hasn't shown up much in wins and losses because Boston plays so well as a team, but you can really see the decline starting for Pierce, Allen and even KG.  .

Mike

Listen i understand its depressing to see perk go but what the hell are you talking about? Ray's having a MUCH better season than last year, actually his BEST year in boston. Pierce has really rebounded from last year, and is actually MORE athletic than last year, also more effiecient. And KG'S PPG and rebounding are both much improved from last year and he's still the best defender in the league. It's pretty amazing but the big 3 are not really declining at all as far as this year.

gearing up to offer a max contract to a free agent in 2012 o start the post big 3 era

But why give up 60 games into the season when you've been playing really well?

I don't see it.

+1 to the OPs point of view.

You don't trade away a critical peace of your team when you have a shot to win a championship for the future.  Idc if we wouldn't have gotten anything back in return for Perk.

If we won a championship it would have been worth it.

Chances like this at a championship don't come around very often like this.

i bet you thought Theo messed up when he traded Nomar.....

how is this giving up? the roster will be stronger heading into the playoffs this yeat and the main competition is miami...this deal really helps boston match up with them better
