Phoenix needs to figure out what the heck their plan is. They have a very strange assortment of long term contracts.

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/phoenix.htm

honestly, I think they just need to start cleaning house and if that's the case, nate + a 1st rounder is not a bad deal for jared.
Dudley is one of the guys with a good contract. They're trying to dump Childress right now.

yeah but he's a bit part for that team and his contract is long term...I think they need to just start over. They made that decision IMO when they didn't re-sign Amare
You don't dump good salary when you try to rebuild, you dump the bad ones.

Warrick/Childress are the issues, not Dudley.

Some teams dump all salary, not just bad salary. Not that they should try and trade Dudley and keep Childress, but getting rid of Josh would probably be pretty costly.

remember when PHO traded Kurt Thomas and TWO first round picks to SEA for salary relief...
That was to get them under the luxury tax, the Suns aren't at that threshold. Thus the marginal cost of a guy like Dudley isn't something that they are going to just dump.

true but they had to GIVE two first round picks to make that deal happen...

this is a team IMO that is looking to unload any long term contracts...they're not going to give JD away, but there is a reason his name is popping up...
Because they're lookind dump their bad contracts, then other teams say "no but we'd love Dudley".

JD is an issue because his contract is long term and he is not a key piece. They need to be acquiring picks and shorter term contracts....

Warrick and Childress are harder to move which is why I think we are hearing JDs name popping up.

It's not an issue if its a reasonable contract from a money standpoint and the player is productive and living up to his contract.  I don't think people are pointing at Dudley and saying he's overpaid or its an awful contract because of the money (which it isnt) or the years.

There is no harm in carrying a guy on your roster who fits that mold (like Dudley) if the contract is longterm.

all things being equal, sure...but this a PHO team that has a bunch of these long term contracts. many of them are unmovable at this point.

JD is one of the movable ones...
Except they're not moving Nash, so why should they move a guy who's playing for them now? They're also not over the luxury tax, plus any pick they get for him is going to cost them as well.

So getting a guy like Nate Robinson won't really save them money, especially when you look at the production drop off!

when you are rebuilding, you aren't really looking at production drop off. As for Nash, he still puts people in the seats.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved in the off season however...

I am not sure about production drop off
giving propper minutes Nate can be pretty much efficient scorer
and Dudley has been up and downs all season
primarly because hes been changing roles all season from starting to bench to position

Nice to be back!

I would love to see the Junkyard Dawg come back to Boston.

For Nate & a 1st rounder?  I'd do that.

You mean this guy?

Has anybody heard any new rumors since?

Woj says the Dudley conversations weren't recent.

Latest rumor is Anthony Parker again, if we'll give up next year's #1.

Unfortunate for us but good decision on Phoenix's part.

that's a steep price for Parker, but I would think about doing it. Quisy is done and there is no guarantee that we get a decent wing off the buyouts.

none of these role players sound all that exciting to me, but I guess it's just replacing Marquis Daniels minimal production... so I'm sure whatever we do will make a minor impact

One thing that did GLARE at me in all this, Nate makes twice what Daniels did this season!
The way Nate has played I don't think we are going to realize much for him unless we through something in to sweeten package

I think giving up our 1st would be a mistake.

Dudley would excite me. He always impresses me when I watch Phx.

I would love this trade, but I highly doubt it actually happens.
