Just looking at the Nets salary cap situation, and man they had a terrible off-season. The Morrow deal is justifiable, but they've got Outlaw for another four years at $7 million per season, Farmer with two more years at roughly $4 million per season, and Petro for another two at $3.5 million per year.
Link.
Terrible. As great as this trade makes Billy King look, he can't be forgiven for his off-season, where he did much more harm than good.
I think the Nets were kind of pressured to do something with their cap space this summer, but because of how awful they were last season hardly anybody wanted to go there.
Yeah, they panicked. Signing guys to overpriced deals isn't a huge sin, but when you sign guys to overpriced *long term* deals, which handicap your flexibility the summer before you move your franchise to Brooklyn, it's a pretty terrible mistake.
I'm still not down on it as much as others are. While it had the chance to tie their hands, I think this trade showed it hasn't, and all of the guys they signed are good young role players who will fit in well.
The only one that I think was a real reach was Outlaw...but I don't think its going to kill them. Even with all those guys, they could have a decent amount of cap space this summer, to add another star, and they have their role players in place when that happens.
