Terrible by the Jazz.  I think they should have been able to get more.

More than Harris (a starting quality PG), Favors (the #3 pick in the most recent draft), 2 first round picks and $3 million?  I'm not the biggest fan of the guy, but how much more would any team cough up for him?  He and Chris Paul are supposed to be the two best PGs in the league, but does anyone really put them on the same level as LeBron or DWade?

Just looking at the Nets salary cap situation, and man they had a terrible off-season.  The Morrow deal is justifiable, but they've got Outlaw for another four years at $7 million per season, Farmer with two more years at roughly $4 million per season, and Petro for another two at $3.5 million per year.

Link.

Terrible.  As great as this trade makes Billy King look, he can't be forgiven for his off-season, where he did much more harm than good.

I think the Nets were kind of pressured to do something with their cap space this summer, but because of how awful they were last season hardly anybody wanted to go there.

New Jersey Nets

PG - Deron Williams, Jordan Farmar and Ben Uzoh
SG - Anthony Morrow, Sasha Vujacic and Quinton Ross
SF - Travis Outlaw, Damion James, Stephen Graham
PF - Kris Humphries, Brandon Wright
C - Brook Lopez, Johan Petro and Dan Gadzuric

Is that their new look team?

Not enough talent around Deron Williams or Brook Lopez to be anything more than a lower seed playoff team.

If New Jersey doesn't make another move in the next 18 months, they might have a tough time holding onto Deron Williams in that 2012 free agency.

I'm guessing there are more moves coming, or there's more to the trade than that.  Or else the Nets are simply planning on making some significant roster moves over the summer.

Dwight Howard is probably their #1 target now.

One thing is for sure - it will be very difficult for the Celtics to compete in this division in a few years.  Rondo is our best player, and in a few years will possibly be our only All-Star caliber player, yet even now he is at best the fourth best player in the division.

And our only all-star caliber player might not even be an all-star in a few years considering the PG talent in the east (Deron, Rose, and maybe Wall).   :(

yup, this may have just killed any possibility of landing D12 in 2012 - they can def use Brook Lopez in a sign and trade (our best hope is that Lopez turns into the type of player thats just too good to trade or replace)... and if CP3 goes to NY in 2012 as well..... Sheesh.

Boston fans - let's enjoy this run now, because we may be headed back to the cellar in a few years.

Yeah, they panicked.  Signing guys to overpriced deals isn't a huge sin, but when you sign guys to overpriced *long term* deals, which handicap your flexibility the summer before you move your franchise to Brooklyn, it's a pretty terrible mistake.

From Wojo:
The Golden State pick is protected 1-7 in 2012.

The Jazz will get the Nets 2011 first round pick and Golden State's 2012 pick that Nets own, league source says.

Yeah, that was an expensive offseason.  Hard to know what NJ's options were, though.  No one, I mean no one, wanted to play there...  They probably could have found cheaper deals, though.

Those are some nice picks.  I'd be surprised if the Nets pick isn't protected, though.

I'm shocked! :o

Poor Jefferson.  He goes from a terrible team to a team with promise (at least at first), now the best player is traded away and he's on a bad team again.

Yeah, I suddenly have zero desire at all to trade for any future kind of piece.  I'm totally down with trading any young piece to win now.  Trade any draft pick in the next 2 drafts (late first round) for win now pieces or future picks which will hopefully be higher.  This is going to be a star studded conference and it is highly unlikely that we will have any.  Maybe we can prepare to rebound sometime around 2016, haha.

I'm still not down on it as much as others are.  While it had the chance to tie their hands, I think this trade showed it hasn't, and all of the guys they signed are good young role players who will fit in well.

The only one that I think was a real reach was Outlaw...but I don't think its going to kill them.  Even with all those guys, they could have a decent amount of cap space this summer, to add another star, and they have their role players in place when that happens.

Well, actually, he goes from a terrible team in Boston to a terrible team in Minnesota, to a decent team in Utah that is now terrible.  Poor guy

WOW - the NBA  - where amazing trades at the Trade deadline Happen!

I love this time of year! Trades come from everywhere and there is so much chatter. Love to see this happen. This is arguably the most anticipated time of year for die hard BBall fans!

Now as far as the trade goes....this year's Atlantic Division banner/title might be the last for a few years (maybe next year). But after NY's moves and potential NJ/Brooklyn's move, the Celtics may be #2 or #3 in the Division for the next 5-6 years. Rondo will keep it interesting though!

So the two draft picks will probably be mid to late lottery picks in the 8-12 range.

With GSW's being protected and with them on track to finish with 30+ wins and with NJ sure to receive a nice bump in the standings over the final 30 games with Deron joining their team.
