I'm curious to see how he fits in NY but honestly I'm even more eager to see how Billups fits in D'Antoni's offense.

I'm a bit worried as Chauncey has given Rondo problems in the past. Chauncey is up there in age now, though, and probably will have issues staying with Rondo on the other end.

But, because of Amare's average to poor defense, the fact that NYK has no real Center is going to kill them. If they somehow managed to scrape a solid center together, I honestly think they could be legitimate contenders this year. They have no assets left, however.

They will more likely be Phoenix East now.   Loads of scoring with little defense and they will beat teams now and again.  But that style doesn't do as well in the playoffs does it?

I am glad it's over.   I was sick of the whole thing.

Daylight robbery.  Denver made out like gangbusters.  They are clearly in rebuild mode now, unless they go on to flip some of their pieces for more established players.

Let's see - the Knicks take back two of the best players in the deal and only trade away role players. They still will have cap space in 2012 (not max space, but certainly enough to make a splash) and this deal was bad, how? The Knicks were not going to win a championship with this current core. They just added a top-10 player without giving up too much in terms of draft picks (1 mid-round first and 2 2nd rounders?). Both the Nuggets and Knicks did really well here.

Billups is worlds better than Felton - has anyone seen his production over the last month? It's not a championship team right now, but they certainly are much closer to it. This also makes NY a much more attractive FA destination for the buy-out types.

On my mind:

- The Knicks now become major buyout buyers.

-They still get knocked out in the 1st round, but they'll do it in a more exciting fashion.

- The East Will be a better conference than the West very soon.

- It looks like the Knicks will have Amare and Melo plus enough cap room next off-season for a max guy.

I'm ticked that they got Corey Brewer too.  I was hoping we could get him. >:(

How will they have max room next off-season? Melo/Amar'e combined make 40-mill. They'd have to literally renounce everybody and everything outside of Melo/Amar'e, and even then, I believe a max guy would have to take a pay cut.

For all we know we don't know what a max contract will  look like next year with the new CBA.

NY got the best player in the deal.

I think its debatable whether they got the two best players.  If I was a team contending for a champtionship, I'd want Billups.  Otherwise, I'd want Gallinari or Chandler.

I think NY gave up too much to get the best player.  I also don't think Melo is a great as many others seem to think.

You raise a good point, though, that having Amare and Melo does help the Knicks to attract FAs.  But its not clear that they will have salary cap space to sign a top FA.  Certainly at the margin, it means they'll be able to sign better FAs with the MLE (of course, all this comes with the caveat that we'll see what happens with the CBA).

Dolan is clearly no genius.

Knicks wasted their leverage.

They'll renounce everyone or package them in a S&T/absorb. Chris Paul will be a Knick within the next 18 months.

I just got finished reading Steven A. Smith's article on ESPN.com. I'm glad that this trade finally went through and that Chauncey Billups is also now a New York Knick.

It would be ratings gold if the newly re-vamped Knicks were able to play the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals during one of these next few seasons as those teams haven't faced each other in the finals since 1973, though for that to happen the Knicks would need to establish themselves as one of the elite teams in the East going forward.

Even if they do, depending on where the cap is under the new CBA, Paul would still have to take a paycut. I don't see him willing to do that.

Soon as i walked into work this morning, the two knick "fans" were screaming and boasting about Carmelo. Them knowing im a huge celts fan, they started immediately with "we are going to beat you in the playoffs , for sure now. Good luck trying to beat us with all your old guys, and boy does kevin garnett look old and tired out on the court."

Seems like all the bandwagoners and spike lee's are crawling out of the wood work now ... ( im from NJ, so its everywhere now )
