Can somebody please explain to me why the Knicks just gutted their franchise for Melo when they prolly could have worked a less damaging deal for Kevin martin?

Because Martin isnt a superstar. Knicks won the jackpot, now they have 2 legit superstars, put NY back on the map in terms of basketball popularity and watchability, and will be able to make improvements for years to come. That opporunity doesent come around often.

Celtics were terrible for 20 years until Ray Allen and KG came here, Knicks are trying to revive their franchise and they have succesfully done that brining in 2 young superstars, now its time for them to fill in the other pieces.

The Knicks should bring back Jeff Van Gundy.

That'll be a blessing...hate listening to that man commenting on games.

Knicks are seeing monetary results already. Their ticket prices have gone up 20%.

Interesting...the Eastern conference will be tough going forward.

Once again, the Celtics fail to get mentioned yet the Lakers who have no cap space always get mentioned in these talks.

The Knicks should bring back Jeff Van Gundy.

He is the right type of coach for that roster.

-------------------------------------------------

D'Antoni is no longer a good fit there.

Unfortunately, Donnie Walsh will never make a decision like that (fire D'Antoni based on fit with personnel). ... he'll want to play it out and give D'Antoni the opportunity to coach this team first. Then make a call. And he'll likely talk himself into giving D'Antoni another season after this one due to NYC's weak supporting cast. So, Donnie will end up wasting the two best year's remaining in Chauncey's career.

Way to go Donnie! Screw up your franchise good and proper.

I'm surprised you're so confident that Dolan will bring Walsh back. Deadline is April 30th. But if he does, and Walsh does want to keep D'Antoni overlong I won't be made at either GM or coach. I'm here in New York and Knicks haven't been this relevant or their games this watchable since the 90s. Much credit.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks buy Billups out at the end of the season.

The best free agent I've ever seen the Celtics pickup so far has been James Posey..yet they still have more banners than everyone else and they've been to the finals 2 of the last 3 years. Don't lose too much sleep over the 2012 thing.

2 Superstars, Madison Square Garden, New York.

Good god, Knicks are going to be the top desired destination in free agency in 2012.

They WILL get either Deron Williams, Chris Paul, or Dwight in 2012.

We better hope we win this year because next year the competition might just be too much for our old guys.

Chris Paul, for my money. Ironically though Dwight would be the better fit.

EDIT: not to say Chris Paul+Melo+Amar'e doesn't equal money...but just like if LeBron wanted to win a title this season he should've looked more into Dallas..NY will target CP3..don't think that NY taking on Billups who also has a 2 yr contract is a coincidence. They know who will be playing the 1 in 2 years.

What does this have to do with the courting of CP3/Deron/Dwight?

So because we haven't had the cap space to make big splashes in the recent history we can't with any of these guys? Specifically Dwight? Or that if we sign one of them they will suddenly turn into terrible players?

No I am not saying any of them, once again mainly Dwight, are going to be here in 2012. But we are MUCH more plausible of a landing spot than Miami or LA.

+1. Ainge gets a pass for his early aughts drafting and for pushing his chips in to the best possible outcome, but name the second best free agent he's signed. (I'd agree that Posey was the best.)

Twilight of his career Shaq? Twilight of his career Rasheed Wallace? Twilight of his career Stephon Marbury? (Kidding.) Twilight of his career P.J. Brown? Twilight of his career Gary Payton?

My point was that Boston has never been a high profile free agent destination...and KG in a year and a half, and Ray in a year and a half..they're not going to be the draw I'm thinking you guys think they will be (not counting the fact that they'd need to sign for virtually no money..which I find unlikely).

Plus, LA can offer Andrew Bynum, plus picks, plus filler..and you know Dwight would go to LA. Celtics are offering what...Rondo, the hope that KG, Ray, and Paul are still all clear above average players?

I just don't see it. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it.

Andrew Bynum will likely be on his 10th knee surgery by that time.

Maybe we aren't a "free agent" destination. But we haven't had cap space and a star on the market in a long time. We also we pretty terrible for 20 years before the Big 3 era.

Oh and also, I'd say a Rajon Rondo in the middle of his prime is a pretty attractive starting piece.

Aside from the Bynum thing, that's all very true (assuming we're contenders next season and we don't trade Ray Allen for a cap killer).

The Bynum thing..I dunno. Maybe, maybe not. Its not out of the question that he could be healthy for a year and a half, and its not out of the question that he'd make Greg Oden look like a better prospect in that time.

Greg Oden..now there' a possibility. We should get him this offseason with the MLE.

Great trade for the Knicks. They have made massive improvements to the foundation of their roster.

I don't like this deal for Denver. A lot of mediocre to good talent but no high level players/prospects (Gallo?). Not realizing Anthony Randolph's value was a major mistake.
