I'm relieved I won't have to watch the 2011 Red Sox anymore.  What a frustrating, flawed team.  Will be interesting to see how different they look next spring.

Unbelievable ... truly amazing. Congrats to the Rays ... this was an incredible comeback, and they deserve this bid.

What a waste Crawford's contract has been ... and the Sox once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Nothing else to say. Ouch.

So fitting that Crawford came up short on a game saving play.

Fitting that Crawford ended the season by failing to make a sliding catch.

Better hope Crawford bounces back next season and earns his paycheck, because otherwise Crawford / Lackey could be insurmountable salary albatrosses for the next few years.

This team that seemed to have so much promise for the future just a couple months ago now looks like it could be mired in Wild Cardish mediocrity for a while.  How and when is the starting pitching going to get better?  The bullpen?

Also, I don't think Jacoby Ellsbury should win the MVP, despite his historically great season, because his team didn't make the playoffs.

If your team doesn't make the playoffs, you shouldn't be considered an MVP -- even if baseball is an individual sport and Jacoby couldn't have done more.

Nostalgic night.

In the words of my social studies teacher from freshman year of high school, the morning following the Aaron Boone HR, "Get used to it guys. This is what it's like to be Red Sox fans."

Well, as a Braves fan, I offer my condolences to you guys.  Looks like both our teams made fools of themelves with matching epic collapses this season.

Sorry to hear about the Sox. One thing: I'm not into baseball but I was wondering, did the Yankees lose on purpose? Is that possible in baseball? Anyone watch the game?

... and the Sox once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Nothing else to say.

I have something else to say. I'm speaking purely out of emotion right now, but oh well: Most of this pitching staff needs to go, starters and relievers. First things first: Lackey is a complete waste of money. Beckett's best years are behind him, plus he and Lester came up empty when the team needed them most. Wakefield's 80, so I'll give him a pass -- except to say that he does very little well now, so they may as well part company with him. Bedard? The guy had one horrible inning in almost every start with Boston. Buy-bye.

As for relievers, keep Aceves -- a pitcher like him is a rare asset. Bard, though, needs to go after he wilted in the September heat, and though Papelbon's overall campaign was good, two of his three blown saves this season came in the last week. That's unacceptable.

The hitting was good overall throughout the season, with great individual campaigns by Ellsbury, Gonzalez, Pedroia and Ortiz, but too many times, especially lately, the offense whiffed on too many opportunities. By my count, in this last game against Baltimore, three times the Sox had a runner on third with two outs and could never come up with a clutch hit. There was also one inning in which they had runners on first and third with NO outs and didn't score. Another disturbing trend late in the season: guys getting thrown out trying to stretch singles into doubles. Ortiz did that this game, and Scutaro was thrown out at the plate. Missed opportunities.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

I don't see why the Yankees would want to meet a potentially dangerous Ray team in the ALCS.  I bet they would rather take their chances on if the Sox somehow beat the Rangers and won the ALDS.  But all of this is a stretch.
