I think I'd rather go after Jamario Moon.

I disagree. Moon is a worse choice. He hasn't even been a consistent rotation player for the Cavs...he is more like Mikki Moore in a SF body...similar build..similar ball IQ.

Scott has made some bad options this year.

Moon is a poor solution as the first wing off the bench, but he's a fairly good rebounder (actually he may be as good rebounding wise as Moore, in spite of the difference in positions/size) and a decent defender. The biggest problem is the lack of a reliable jump-shot, but I'm not sure that should outweigh the rest. A couple of years ago, Parker was clearly a better player. And he still is (not clearly any more), but what Moon can do is arguably more useful to Boston.

Mike Brown didn't use him much either. I remember it was Parker who was guarding Kobe...not Moon. Parker has declined but he'll still be a better defender/back up SF compared to Moon. If JO comes back healthy, Moon's rebounding won't be needed much...and that's the only facet of his game that's more impressive than Parker.

Once PP goes to the bench, our scoring and defense suffers more than rebounding.

As I posted in another thread, Semih is not going to get any playoff minutes.  He's just in there now to fill the gap.  Even if JO isn't able to come back the C's will use Perk and Shaq at the 5, with occasional minutes for BBD at the 5.

Avery and Luke will also see no playoff minutes, so trading any of these 3 players for a proven NBA player is good thing for us.

I think Parker would be a good fit for us, (Grant Hill, also), but I'm not sure we could pull it off. I think they're still trying to hang their hopes on 'Quis, obviously, but the injury he has could easily be career-ending. It's an injury that's very hard to assess, and very hard to measure in regard to what the long-term prognosis will be, and how much he'll be able to take on in the next few months. I hate to throw cold water on this, because I love the guy's game and attitude and fit for this team, but I honestly don't think Marquis will be playing again this year ... and possibly never. I really, really hope I'm wrong.

I think Daniels and the 1st is the most likely offer.

Neither are going to help the Celtics win a title this year anyways.

Yea, this trade seems OK, although I'm not sure Parker can be easily had for this. And I'm cautious on handing out a 1st for a rental.

To me, Erden should be and probably is off-limits. I do wonder if one of those "15-20 options" Danny says he had includes Erden, but Danny should stay away from that.

Agree with Tai.

Giving up a first rounder for a 35 year old 4 month rental makes no sense.

Also, i dont think Parker gives us any advantage come playoff time.

Any trade for Parker will invariably be a net loss

Saw that too.

Can't trade Semi straight up for Parker, but Daniels and Semi works in the Trade Checker.

Daniels alone also works, if Boston includes a draft pick.

You would give up Daniels and Semih for Parker?  That is way too much, even if Daniels does not play again this year. Semih has shown real promise. Parker is old, and just another perimeter guy.

I can't remember when the TD is?

Thurs, Feb 24, 3 PM EST.

Trade talks begun before the deadline may be finalized after.

TP'ed.

Daniels may not play again this season. While he's shown flashes, Semi is currently injured, and also has a shoulder that will require surgery at some point.

Consolidating two iffy players into one sure-fire rotational player, and opening up a roster spot for a potential buyout, seems like a good move to me.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
i really hope the bulls get him.
I've watched this guy throughout his career and he is pretty much an overrated garbage man.
He only ever got court time on the Cavs because their team sucked other than lebron and Mo...he goes on shooting lapses that are worse than nate's.
I wouldn't get rid of semih.
If we could trade luke and Nate then i'd be cool with it but i would never let semih go considering our current bigman/injury situation for parker. he is the definition of a scrub.

Read that last line again. One more time.

Semih is not going to be a part of this possible trade.

Semih has shown the ability to become a solid 20-minute backup center in this league. Considering the situation the Celtics are in with a) injuries to big men and b) the future of this team, Semih is too valuable.

Sounds like the Cavs want some actual value for Parker:

Quote
Parker is a high-character guy and good in the locker room, and he is making less than $3 million on an expiring deal. The Cavs have been rumored to be in talks with the Chicago Bulls for Parker, perhaps for a second-round pick. But one league source said the Cavs would like to bring Parker back next season and wouldn't trade him for a pick they could simply purchase on draft night. Whether or not Parker has any interest in re-signing with a rebuilding team remains to be seen.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Obviously a buy-out player that we can sign for the minimum would be ideal, but if not, Parker is a pretty good option. I know that many are high on Erden, but it's hard to picture him as a major factor in the future of the Celtics. I guess technically we would be getting the lesser end of the deal, but we have a pretty glaring need and are in win-now mode. Giving up a guy who one day could be a respectable back-up center for a player like Parker who could very much help us win the championship seems like a pretty easy decision.
