is this sucks or what...

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/15/consulting-surgeon-on-brandon-roy-says-he-had-1-2-years-left

Quote
The “consulting surgeon” whispers that he believes the best-case strategy for handling Roy is this: A) Limit Roy’s practice reps to almost nothing; B) Play him off the bench in 65-75 or so games a season, choosing rest in key spots; C) pray.

They both got paid with their second contracts. I'm sad they're not the players they could have been, but I wouldn't say I'd hate to be them.

Being the kind of caliber that he (or Yao) is, it sucks. Knowing that you're that good of a player but you cant live up that potential because of certain injuries.

Guess it sucks to be Tmac also.

Greg Oden anyone?

For someone to have that much promise, and expectations placed on him, and not being able to prove himself, that would be very hard.

You have to feel bad for all these guys mentioned...

I hurt my knee, and didn't play for 6 months, and I didn't know what to do with myself, I absolutely hated it, and I'm only playing a few different teams in local league's!  Imagine not being able to do what you normally do day in, day out?

Truly sad....it's a testament to the quality of this franchise that they are still competing like they are.

Glad to see Joel getting back into stride..I didn't like his physicality against us in POR a few weeks ago, but he certainly brings an edge to that team.

And LaMarcus? He's taking it to another level...I am starting to believe that someone goofed with the All-Star balloting.

I am thankful we didn't end up with him.   It's luck of the draw in sports.   Some guys are healthy and some are not its too bad.

McGrady kind of reached his prime though.  We hadn't seen the best of Brandon Roy yet.  It's too bad.  He really was one of the best shooting guards in the league.  If he ever played in just a normal paced offense and not that slow one they play in Portland his numbers would have been unreal.
do it

I wouldn't hate to have his four-year maximum-salary contract though  :)

Yeah man. I was just thinking the same thing looking at the thread title.

First, I'd hate to be a Portland fan. Their two future superstars (and I tell you this..if Oden and Roy were both 100% healthy for the past 2 years, with Porland's depth..they would be challenging the Lakers this season) are both now iffy propositions at best, and their best player aside from Aldridge is a guy that the fans killed management over for giving him so much money.

2) The rest of the fans in the NBA. Brandon Roy was and is one of my favorite players, and honestly he's got the most well rounded game of any 2 guard aside from Kobe. If his career had held the course it was supposed to, he'd be challenging Kobe for that spot this season, second to maybe Wade.

EDIT: Right now the two non-celtics I like watching score most are Carmelo and Brandon Roy..there is an effortlessness that both guys exude that is just mesmerizing. They both have this weird thing they do while dribbling..where they don't look like they're moving that fast (unlike say Rondo, or Beaubois, or Parker), and they don't look like they're super-strong (like Lebron, or Wade), but the defense just seems to crumble. Its like Paul Pierce used to be every time he touched the ball.

3) Then I'd feel sorry for Portland's management, but they fired Kevin Pritchard, so I don't.

4) Then I'd feel sorry for Brandon Roy, who obviously isn't just a paycheck player.

A Healthy core of Roy-Oden-Aldridge would be absolutely incredible.

Incredible.

They would win titles.

Sadly this happens all the time, Leon Powe, Gord Kluzak...anyone remember him probably the future of nhl defenders signed by the bruins and multiple knee injuries ended his career very early.  You can't pick who gets the injuries, seems like roy was a top notch player and a good guy, Leon we all know was, so many idiots in the nba stay healthy.
Again shows what a great job Nate McMillan does as coach out there.

This puts new perspective on our trading the 6th pick that year and foregoing Brandon Roy. (I know, we got an expiring contract (Ratliff) that enabled us to get KG, etc. I get it).
