No.

He'll then be a one position player. He won't be able to guard Centers.
What he said. If he wasn't so "big" then he'd be too short and pushed around. Now he's too short and can push people around.

Can he push people around because he has fat in his upper body or because he has a really strong base, strong legs, and quick footwork.

I think it is the latter. Losing the spare tire would not hinder his ability to body post players.

His shortish arms also help him out when it comes to shoving people around in the post, though it hurts his game in other areas.

As others are pointing out, we're talking about pure fat weight loss. Keep lifting the same amount of weights, increase the cardio a little, decrease the food a little.

So let's flip it around. Picture how Davis would look if he just lost 20-30 pounds of fat. Probably a little like Boozer; that's a good comparison. So, Picture that type of player: Strong, solid...now, which of those players would ever, in any circumstance, be Better if they Gained 20-30 pounds of pure fat???? NO ONE!!  There are certainly players that could be better by gaining weight...like anthony randolph...but in that case they are talking about gaining weight by hitting the squat machine and building muscle mass, not just overeating.

And absolutely, the concern about Davis in the draft was about whether he'd be able to keep his weight or lose it, with losing weight representing the greatest upside. Shaq was always going to be #1 based on size and skill, but he too always played better as he lost weight.

I guess an argument could be made for both cases, more fat or less. But I agree with Fan from VT on this one, less "Fat" on Baby would not effect his ability to manhandle guys in the post like he currently does - it would probably increase his strength.

I also agree the main reason he can body guys is because of his natural strength, leg strength included, his big back side and his good foot work.

By the way it still jiggles under that shirt when he runs - he's got at least 20 lbs of pure fat that could come off.

Agreed again - keep lifting to maintain current strength and muscle mass, drop the fat, increase the cardio - let's see what it looks like on the court.

I think if Baby goes Perkins or Malone on us, and gets carved up - we're talking about a real wrecking ball around the basket - defensively and offensively - and much more than what we are currently seeing now.

They were just showing BBD on Celtics now. Ray Allens wife was interviewing him for her new cooking show and she asked BBD what is his secret food that he sneaks into his diet and he said crispy cream donuts . I am pretty sure this isn't a once in a blue moon thing either.

They showed him earlier this year ordering room service on the road and he was eating so much crap.

Rondo was also interviewed in the piece and he said he used to eat mcdonald's all the time in college, but learned he had to have a good diet to stay in NBA shape.

Why can't BBD copy Rondo? cmon man have a little will power and you will get that long term contract you are looking for!

  • You say when......
"Fat" and pro athelites do not go together...they just don't..! There isn't any part of being over weight do to extra fat that helps anyone. Muscle weighs more than fat, so his scale numbers can be easily replaced with muscle #'s. There is no excuse for being in his shape, at his age, for his job.

He needs that weight to push people out of the way as he's putting up shots under the hoop...it's leverage. I think he'd actually be worse if he lost that much weight.

He'd be better if he could grow his arms out about 2 feet more. He has the wingspan of a chipmunk.

I don't understand what the fuss is all about. IMO, This thread is 2 years too late. Now not so much. If anything its insulting to call Big Baby FAT. Is this what an Overweight person looks like?  ::)

Big Baby is one guy I never question his dedication to his craft. To go from where he was his rookie season, and now potentially NBA 6th man of the year. He has a great track record.

I don't care if he's a little overweight, I just said he had short limbs.

anyone can look in decent shape in a picture with their hands lifted over their heads.

I am not saying he is so fat that it makes him a bad player, just that I think he could be even more effective if he had a little better lift and a quicker step. It would also improve his stamina and save his knees later in his career prolonging his career.
