If we are going to talk about throwing in a first rounder then we have to get a better player than Howard. He is showing some pretty selfish behaviour or he is injured. For a player of his talent level I am suspicious of his sudden lack of playing and availablility since being traded to the Wizards from Dallas. The fact that the league hasnt beaten down the door with offers to him and he had to re-sign for cheap is a red flag as well.

He may be a guy who has chronic injury that is keeping him from ever performing again at a high level. He may also be a problem child that although talented, teams will only make minimum investment or committment.

If he is cheap then get him if you like him, if not then buyer beware.

Send them Quis and $3M.

The $3M is enough for them to buy out Quis.  Quis makes about $2.5M this season, and the season is half-done so they should be able to buy him out and still have a nice chunk of the $3M left over.

What would it take at this point in the season to buy out Quis, for Quis to not lose any $$?  $1.5M?  Washington could use those savings to buy an earlier second-round pick next season, or just pocket the money.

We take Howard, who they don't want, off their hands.  They get a little $$ by essentially buying out Quis with our money.  Quis is going to need at least the 30 days to get healthy, if he IS OK by the end of the season then maybe the C's make a secondary move (buying out JO, or waiving Wafer if he's buried behind Delonte) to bring him back.

Daniels and a 2nd for Josh Howard

Howard is not in the long term plans (1 year, 3 million dollar contract)

If he passed a physical, he could help the Celtics.

The Wiz save a little money this year and add a 2nd round pick next year.  The Celtics can even throw in money for a buy out.

Only make this move if Howard can show to be healthy.

Is it bad karma to trade Daniels after such a scary injury?

I feel like we need to keep him on the train for the rest of this season...

other than that I think Howard would be a great pickup. I was hoping on him in the off season.

Not bad karma.  Good management.  Just give him a ring as well when the Celtics win it all.  He earned it.

No, I hear you. and I have definitely thought about moving him because we don't have a lot of ways to match salaries in trades, but it feels a little grimy to me...

I don't know. I'm on the fence about moving him considering what happened.

I'd be happier if we could get the other team to buy out Quis and then he could come back as a bench coach type.

I really wanted Howard instead of Marquis in the offseason.  Now, I'm not sure if I'd give up much to aquire him.  We have enough guys with injuries and body parts that need to be managed.  Plus, his shot attempts seemed awefully high in limited minutes prior to shutting it down.  However, maybe he would buy into the C's system as everyone else seems to.

A buyout would be ideal.

buyouts are tricky too though because we need to cut someone to create a roster spot.

Daniels would be the buy out.

If the Wiz are going to buy out Howard anyways, they would do this trade.  Daniel's is cheaper.

If healthy I like bringing him aboard, dont like giving up Marquis though. I dont think the Wizards do that deal.

I think they would.

They brought Howard back on a one year deal in the hope he could create some trade value for them to continue rebuilding.

At this point, a 2nd round pick is a blessing.

our 2nd rounder is next to useless, so I think we'd have to give them our end-of-the-first rounder - which I think would be worth it if he's healthy

I don't know, Semi turned out to be pretty useful.  ;)

Sounds good (and realistic) but I'm not really keen on trading for an injury prone player since we've basically lost our two guys fitting that criteria to injuries (JO and Marquis).

I think Howard may reject the trade.  I don't think he wants to give up his Bird rights.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

no way -- why would he need them? the best thing he could do for his career is go to a playoff team and show he can still perform. that's how guys get $$$.
