Did you know Michael Jordan once scored 63 points in a playoff game?
You're hanging out on an NBA website, so probably you did.
Did you know Jordan's Bulls LOST that game?
You're hanging out on a Celtics website, so probably you did.
But I bet every non-Celtic fan you know has forgotten.
The vast majority of the raves about Jordan's 63-point performance never mention that it was a losing effort. There's gushing about the individual achievement, how he was "God disguised as Michael Jordan." There's that NBA2K11 ad where Rondo gets told "Jordan's dropping 63 on the Celtics" again-- and Rondo acts owned instead of answering "and the Celtics will win anyway again."
Basketball isn't usually about personal achievements. Ray happened to have one that spanned many games and culminated last night.
Next week, next season, and in ten years that will still be held up as a benchmark.
And, yeah, Lakers fans will say "but the Celtics lost that game." No one will listen to them anymore than anyone listens to you when you say "but the Bulls lost that game."
